Partners in our office low key expect us to be in office 5 days a week so seems likely

likefunny

It’s like a decent concession I guess but it still limits the talent we can acquire. If we were more flexible with remote work, we wouldn’t have to limit ourselves to geographic labor pools. I still think it is short sighted to require in office work for all. Especially for paralegals.

likefunny

They haven't yet but I'm sure it's coming pretty soon.

like

Probably. No one's expecting to say fully remote at JL.

like

Yes, we heard today.

like

Monday and wedn. I’m fine with those days. I do M-W in office and TH and F WFH.

like

I’m probably gonna do the same depending on what OMP says

Ours does as well. I usually do Tuesday-Thursday, might just Monday-Thursday and WFH on Friday now.

like

Our office seems to low key prefer WFH so I’m hopeful OMP will just tell us to use our professional judgment

Hi all, question about a senior partner at my firm. He is constantly messaging me late at night about non important things. He went off on me about minor issues in a draft I completed. And while he is on a case with me, is always eager to pass blame onto me, when he has been working on the file as well. I haven’t had issues with any other attorneys at my office. I’m definitely ready to leave over it. Am I being reasonable?

Tips to stay motivated and cut procrastination? I started a new client side job remotely a few months ago at the beginning of covid. I know that I'm extremely lucky to have landed a role during shutdown, but lately my motivation has taken a hit. My entire team of two people is new, and it's definitely been odd to onboard remotely. Things are not as fast paced or as exciting as agency side, but I have also been dragging out tasks due to procrastination and just feeling lost. How can I do better?

Additional Posts in Labor & Employment Attorneys

I’m an L&E associate entering my 5th year at a mid-sized regional law firm (approx. 400 attorneys). Barred in PA/NJ. Billed 2100 last year but my requirement is 1950. Should I try to lateral into BigLaw or should I try to go in house? Are either of those realistic options for me? I seem to be doing a significant amount of municipal law too, which is not what I expected or wanted at all. I want a life but would also hate to take a pay cut. Interested in L&E. Advice?

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial. Any advice on a lateral move to a bigger firm with a broader range of EPL work?

I am attempting to lateral to a position at Littler/Ogletree/Jackson Lewis, but I do not have a license in the states where I am applying. I have been actively practicing for 8 years, so I should be able to waive into those jurisdictions without issue, but don't want to make that investment without an offer. Do those firms hire laterals and let them become licensed in the jurisdiction after coming on?

Federal Register confirms 2023’s 8.7% COL increase. Associate at Ogletree and my expected 2023 base salary will NOT reflect a full 8.7% increase from my 2022 salary. So I’ll effectively accept a pay cut IF I stay with OD in 2023. Also seems to mean my added yr of seniority/experience is effectively not accounted for in 2023’s salary. Is this a universal experience across comparable firms or are other firms doing across-the-board increases in light of 2023’s 8.7% COL jump? Am I overthinking this?

Why does Atlanta seem to be a major L&E hub like California? Ogletree, Fisher Philips, and Ford Harrison are all from Atlanta, and there always appears to be jobs in Atlanta and California. Hi! First off, I know none of this constitutes legal advice, etc., but I’d like some outside perspectives and advice here.

My wife found out she makes ~25% less that her male co-worker did when he was her level of seniority, and they have the same job responsibilities and the exact same credentials (same undergrad, masters program, etc.); he now makes 50% more than she does, but has 3 more years of WE, so to me that’s not as applicable.

Does she have a claim here? Need any other details?
