First-year associate here. I’m curious about standard compensation for small plaintiff’s PI firms in big cities. If you’re a first-year, how does your pay structure work? If you’re an experienced attorney, what do you typically offer new hires who are fresh out of law school? Most of my friends are in more normal billable practices so it’s difficult to gauge what’s standard pay because I’m the only one in plaintiff’s PI. Thanks!

Hi All, I'm a senior associate consultant with 5.6yrs of experiences of overall experience in Telecom Industry.
Tech stacks - 3 years in Java,
1.5 years in spring boot,

Hey guys! Currently in WM ops at Morgan Stanley for the past 1 year dealing with alternative lending, I’m super underpaid with 3 years of experience which is very frustrating. (73k). Have been at Morgan for 1 year and looking to come over to JPM for an ideal pay bump, but would like to get into IB type roll. Any insight on what I should expect or how to go about applying? Maybe even getting referred? I have a deep knowledge of investments and always felt inclined to go down this route.

1099 or w-2 ? I have been given the option though the company prefers w-2. It’s a day rate booking couple of months or more (no end date). I already have 1099 from similar company this year and am leaning towards 1099, but I don’t want to be difficult. I do take home office deduction and they are not supplying any equipment. What's your preference for plaintiff's side? Steady pay at approximately $120k with no bonuses, or a base salary of $70k plus a cut of what you close over a minimum threashold? Midwest-ish market. In both situations, you get a cut of what you bring in.

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation. This whole process seems very atypical to me and the attorneys rarely touch a file until the first liability offer is received. The paralegals handle everything from intake to drafting the demands. The attorney briefly skims (does NOT read) the demand packages and signs. Is this ethical?? Anyone else work at a firm that is run this way??

Has anyone ever dealt with Geico UM case where they insist that a release needs to be signed? Geico extended our client’s policy limits but wants him to sign a release. We offered to sign an acknowledgment of receipt of funds but Geico said without a release signed, they will not issue payment.

First PI case. Just got defendant’s discovery back. I asked for all policies to see any potential coverage and was just sent back the 2-page dec page. Is that normal? What is my response/objection to this?

What things can I do to market myself? I’m switching from ID to PI in January and we get half the fees on cases we being in so I’d like to be on the radar of not only my own friends and family, but the local legal community and the community in general.

I’ve done PI work my entire career for over 10 years. I’ve worked in state and federal courts and I’ve traveled around the country doing MDL work and bellwether trials. I’ve had a lot of success making the idiots I’ve worked for wealthy, but I’m still waiting for a moment where I enjoy what I’m doing. I feel stuck working in dysfunctional plaintiff firms/cultures. I hate this profession/career more and more each year. Has anybody been successful breaking off on their own in recent years? Advice?

Anyone in SoCal have any opinions about Berman, Berman, Berman, Schneider and Lowary? Have them on a case but don’t know much about them.

Anyone know a Connecticut or 2nd circuit case for this rule? I can’t find one to save my life. A defendant generally is liable for all harmful results that are the normal incidents of and within the increased risk caused by their negligent acts. If a defendant's negligence was a substantial factor in producing the plaintiff's injuries, the element of proximate cause has been satisfied and the defendant would not be relieved from liability for those injuries even though another force concurred..

Hello all, I'm a very green attorney, never tried a single case or even was second or third chair, but managed to land a litigation associate position at a Plaintiff's firm. Does anyone remember their first trial? How did you feel and how did it turn out by comparison? Anything you wish you did differently?
I know in THEORY what the process of trials are but thanks to COVID I haven't been able to observe them in real life so I'm very nervous for the day I finally enter a courtroom.
