My company cut staff to 4 days/wk to save funds. I was getting requests from coworkers for docs needed urgently on our day off (fridays). I would oblige them. But then, I learned that those same coworkers had been put back to 5 days because they were deemed “essential“. I felt foolish and decided to stop working on fridays. My ASM is lazy and is incapable of doing the easiest basic tasks with recruitment. What happens if what the employee said is slanderous and a “he said/she said” situation? I’m in this business to cure my inferiority complex. Making lots of money, working with fortune 500 clients and walking the streets of NYC with a suit, tie and briefcase makes me feel important and worthy.

I often wish I could be like my law school friends who either moved to small towns or have public sector or non profit jobs, wear sweaters and jeans to work and make far less than me, but are happy with their lives, feel a sense of meaning with their work and don’t need external validation.

I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB.
