Hi there, I’ve been told that Deloitte (London, UK) is going to make me an offer but haven’t heard back and it’s been over two weeks. The recruiter mentioned it would be around the “m2 grade”. Any idea what this pay range is? … I have 3 YOE working in NHS finance and have applied for a position in Risk Advisory, public sector. Curious what life at Deloitte is like? Does a work life balance exist?

Look for a new job if you're unable to move to a project you want
Your best bet is to try and find work to transition to. Other than that, you don’t have a tremendous amount of say in how your firm makes money, especially at an analyst level.
Is pushing against an extension wrong? Happy to do my time but do not want to be extended.
OP how many years out of school are you?
OP It seems like you're a first/second year analyst. I agree with your CC - you're going to get flagged if you want to leave early. I would recommend to put some time on the project... just so they said you "tried", because at Accenture they want people to "try" something new rather than vocally express what they want immediately. This is something that they do that has always bothered me but I don't give a fuck anymore 👋🏼
While you're putting some time at the project:
1. Figure out if they have Management Consulting teams and try to get to know what they do, you might be able to transfer internally without leaving the project.
2. Continue putting effort in building your MC skills on your free time.
3. Keep looking for another job: If you get an offer while you're in that detestable role, you can leave 🙌🏼
If you're fed up of that role and no exit opp is happening immediately:
1. Talk to your CC. Explain you've put some time on the project already and you're not interested anymore. If your CC is not supportive enough, ditch him/her. You need someone supportive, not someone who brings you down.
2. Talk to you leads. Thank them for the opportunity but explain that you are happier and more engaged when you're doing what you love/what you're interested in, and right now you don't feel like it. Tell them you want to work towards a transition out of the project.
3. You also have to think: Do I want to be promoted on the fast lane doing whatever think in whatever project or want to make sure I have skills I'm interested in while working in projects I like? Expect biased reviews if you departed the project soon but in my experience, I rather take a subpar review and sacrifice a performance year than killing my soul in an ugly project. You can always get promoted in or out of the company, but there's no substitute for your soul and your stability. Good luck!
Only if you have somewhere else to go. If you are pushing against extending and don’t have a landing spot lined up then you will (rightfully) be judged for it.
@A1 I am at ACN. Should I tell my manager upfront that I am looking to go elsewhere? I was sold on this as a 3 month role but it seems like it's going to turn into something much much longer. CC advises against raising that flag so early, but if I have to stay here any longer than 3 months I will leave the firm (although I don't want to)
Did NOT sign up to do work like this. The previous person on the role has been here for 1yr + and has been trying to roll off. The current role is 3 months, but there's 95% chance it'll be extended. How do i go about this? Convey now (first few weeks) that I do not want to be extended and will aid with a translation plan come December, or just keep quiet until closer to the roll off date?
@P1 I've thought about that, and leaving, but would that be impulsive after only spending a year? Would other firms consider me?
Don't leave. Talk to your coach, find a different project.
It's consulting, people jump all the time.
OP I wonder if you're at Accenture? Happens all the time here. I would suggest you to leave the company if you don't feel the adequate support to leave the project. It's not fair to be stuck where you don't want to be.
@c1 finishing up my first year at the firm. Although I know we all have to pay our dues, I cannot stay on this project doing IT Admin work for longer than 3 months. I'll be shooting myself in the foot.
@A1 If the initial agreed term of the role was 3 months (ends 12/31) would you consider that putting in my "time"? I'm happy to do that but refuse to be extended beyond that.
@A1 thank you for the thorough response!
OP I agree with PwC2. Find something else and see if you can move internally, tough it out until it's over, or try your chances by quitting. I will say you're chances of finding another consulting role are low and give your experience you'll probably end up back at the entry level if you land anything at all.
OP I believe putting on the original contractual time is putting in your time. Let me ask you something, did they say already they were going to extend you and for how long? If not, it's time for you to start the conversation. Ask what are their plans with you, because you have a right to know, and not be blindsided instead. According to their response, you want to let them know your views on the role. Be clear and straightforward enough so they understand that this is not what you want/see for your career after these months on the role, and that you're willing to work to get another role (whether in the same project or outside) and also make sure they have time to get a replacement + for you to train that person. To be honest, if you are clear and set a feasible action plan, they cannot refuse to let you go. Analysts and consultants are the most replaceable people in consulting... whichever project that obsesses over someone to the point of refusing to let them go is a project that I will go full force against until they let me go. No matter what you're told, your professional life is something no one but you should have a say.
@A1 they have not... but the last person on this role has been here 1+ year and the only reason it is 3 months is because the contract expires then, which the client will almost most certainly renew (they talk often in month timelines as if I'll be here for a while). The current transition from the previous person and I has Been quite difficult and I'm 100% positive the client will not want to do this again in 3 months thus they will renew/extend.
@a1 logic says I should ask intentions and convey my desire to roll off at the end of the agreement and help set up a transition plan, but others say that'll look bad/I'll get a bad review etc.
I don't want to leave ACN, just be able to say no to an inevitable extension and go to a project that aligns with what I was hired into this company for.
OP Your review will be biased, as I explained in the last point of my original post. It's not going to be good, but you need to weigh in between these two outcomes:
A) Do I stay and pave the way to a potential easy promotion in a role I hate? Assuming you'll be there for a long time and everyone will know you
Or
B) Do I screw one review cycle to leave a project I hate and get the freedom to pursue other opportunities that interest me more?
