Never been laid off, but that sounds like a typical case of imposter syndrome. Just remember - you were hired over many others because they believe you can do it. They're rooting for you.
I know my layoff was beyond my control. I also learned that consulting isn't for me and I'm doing much better at my new job. I also have a much better and supportive network of people bc I definitely didn't have that at PwC, and the environment is more relaxed
Yeah I wish I would've done more research about Joe consulting truly is. Or rather I wish Accenture would be upfront about the staffing model.
Financial analyst at a med device manufacturer. Didn't get a large pay bump or a major title change but I'm a lot happier now and can definitely see a career here vs in consulting
Have faith in yourself, and chose your projects carefully.
It takes time. Be kind to yourself and remember that layoffs are rarely about you personally.
Thanks you all. Nice to know I don't suffer with these feelings alone. And Assoc1, agreed - I find my new firm to be much more supportive and helpful. But somehow just can't shake the feeling that idk what's around the corner :/
Good luck D1! Positive energy your way.
Being laid off isn't about you. In every job you have you work two weeks and get paid for two weeks. That said if you have anxiety about it, be gentle with yourself while you work through it. Transitions: healing through life's changes is a good book that can help
Assoc 1 what are you up to now?
Yeah I know the feeling, I've been laid off twice, first an a firm for which deloitte was doing a major ERP implementation that went south and my entire team got laid off. Second was at uncle d after 10 years of work and just returning from maternity leave, so that was a kick in the face. Now I'm looking for new work (it was a mutual separation, so my references are fine) but I panic now all the time. What if I don't know my shit? What do I really know? How will I not f this up again? It's so stressful. At least you have a job - that's awesome and a first step In rebuilding your confidence!!
D1, that's terrible! I'm so sorry. My lay off came a couple months after I had just lost my dad and was trying to support my family emotionally and financially. It was a tough time. Anyway, I think and hope you will find something new very soon! Especially after 10 years of exp at Deloitte. Rooting for you 😊
