For folks who use law pay/accept credit card payments - do you/can you pass through the processing charges to clients? if not, are you really taking a 3+% haircut?

We don’t pass on the fees to the client. My partner used to when he was a solo, but I got nervous that it is not legal in our state. I’m not 100% sure/have seen conflicting opinions. However, I will tell you that the convenience is likely worth the 3%. When bills go out at the beginning of the month, there is a link to pay directly by credit card and I know exactly when the office manager starts sending bills because my email starts lighting up with payment notifications. No waiting around for checks to come in the mail after billing. Just raise your fees by the 3% to cover it. 😉

This is the answer. I don’t pass along the 3% credit card charge to clients. For me it is worth it to get the fee paid right away.

like

We charge the fee to the client - it’s disclosed multiple times that n our website and in the retainer agreement. If someone is not into paying the fee we also offer other options.

I’m trying to get the partners to set up a PayPal and Venmo but they are resistant.

How many homes should you tour minimum, and how many offers did you put in before you closed? I don't want to be too hasty and choose something just because, but I also think continuing to see homes isn't really making my decision any easier. Thanks!

I work at a small, 3 lawyer firm. One of the lawyers is not barred in the state we practice. Because of this, the managing attorney has been having him draft motions and other legal documents and use my name and bar number and having me file them because I will have to appear in court for the matter. Is this normal? I am not provided time to review the materials before I file them so I end up working longer days because I am nervous to file something using my name and bar number.
