For those in big4 firms or FAANG, does Lean/Six Sigma certification ls help or are they desired? I had 1 mentor recommend it, but I haven’t seen anyone else mention these certifications or require their knowledge for a role.

Tbh, certs help you initially, early in career or if you are changing profiles/industries. Your resume speaks to your skills and experience better than having a “cert”

like

I think your question was understood; the short answer - in the longer run, they neither necessarily help, nor are they particularly desired

like

Certs are all about the HR team reviewing a resume or a number for sales to sell a potential client as a vanity metric to make it seem like they can deliver good work. Get it early on to understand the basics and then actually do the relevant work

like

If you’re in supply chain sure, but no I wouldn’t put much weight on it. Good to think about in terms of process optimization but I wouldn’t dump a bunch of money in to it.

Certs have massive diminishing returns after about 5 YOE; one could argue they can actually have negative returns at certain stages.

Sorry for the typo, it meant to ask do the certifications help or are they desired.

Hi OP, yes they have specific strategic value, but they are not overall resume/profile boosters. If you have a target in mind I would do it, but otherwise don’t waste the time and money.

A couple years ago I was working at one of the top giant pharma companies and became interested in moving out of the lab eventually. I paid out of pocket for classes and coaching for a six sigma certification. Zero people in my department cared about this, but I was able to leverage the certification and got onto a massive international shipping redesign and optimization project that company was doing. Fast forward a bit and I’m at McKinsey as a consultant. Getting that first certification opened specific doors I needed, but other than that it had fairly limited value to me.

Btw, nobody in my Deloitte, BCG, or McKinsey interviews ever asked about the certification (it was on my resume). They just wanted to know about my work experiences.

I just left a Fortune 10. Six Sigma was the lowest on the food chain. Better to do Scrum Master or Scaled Agile which most tech teams use nowadays.

Had only one call with my TL in first two months. Few weeks later, on workday I noticed that my TL got reassigned. Contacted him and have setup regular catch-ups. This is my first consulting role and I feel I am not receiving enough support. Few people are helping to learn the ropes but WFH has exacerbating the problem. How do I get a TL to receive pointed feedback? PwC

Hi guys, so a friend of mine has been head hunted for a job as a designer position for a interior design company. His current job is a good position which puts him on track to be creative director in 2 years. His current job is a great role, loves what he does but he’s not being paid as much as he should and he’s pretty curious about this other job offer. He’s thinking of going for a meeting with the other company. What kind of questions do you think should be asked in the meeting?

I felt so confident in applying. The recruiter called a week later and said the hiring manager was extremely impressed with my resume. The first “interview” (informal meet and greet) went great and I was told I’m definitely moving on to the formal panel interview. I reached out to the recruiter with a happy “just following up” email on Friday afternoon and she said the coordinator should be in touch by Monday at the latest. No email came. Talk me off ledge. Confidence plummeting.

They sometimes ask me for help with stuff, but I’m just getting annoyed at this point. Can I just say “no” since they’re about to be a mid/senior associate who should know all of this?
