For those in industry, how do you handle department directors/VPs blaming accounting for what comes through their monthly P&L results?

I had a VP make a comment in front of his SVP, other VPs, finance ED, and my boss to the effect that accounting's processes resulted in unfavorable results for their business unit.

Upon personally researching, accounting had zero issues in their processes...
