For those of you who have workplace accommodations: what are they, and how do they help you in your role? I have accommodations for flexibility pertaining to my start and end work times, ability to work remotely, ability to take extended 1-2 hour breaks during medical flare-ups, and a preference to receive tasks in writing. However, I don't feel as if it's enough.

ADHD and law are complementary. You can see details no one else can. You will find solutions no one else will.

However, it also means you are going to be terrible at time management, terrible with deadlines and finally terrible with proof reading. You are also likely to not know what to give time to.

I also think letting firms know you have ADHD or asking for accommodations is pointless. The latter part is you/your life coach.

I have struggled with these issues all of my career. I beat the odds over and over against the toughest problems in litigation. I am still always one step away from unemployment.

ADHD and law firm life is just incompatible. My biggest problem is always time entries even after I do the work. Life coach/coping strategies/CBT. These help more than accomodations.

What else could they conceivably do at that point?

Angry? Not at all.

Yes, as a lawyer with ADHD (that wasn’t diagnosed until law school) I’m terribly aware about the inconveniences of a neurospicy brain.
My question was literal. What other conceivable actions could they take? Yes, they have to provide reasonable accommodations, but we also have separate ethical violations that are ironclad. A 5pm filing deadline is what it is. 30 day deadline to respond to RFA’s won’t resolve itself no matter how deep my current shame spiral.

I think it’s tough because our clients don’t give accommodations so the firm can only do so much.

Hey all, having issues with interviewing this year. I’ve been passed over every opportunity I really want and I’m unsure how to regroup and move forward. I’m really trying to break into method development roles and I haven’t had the opportunity to do so with my analytical experience. A lot of my HPLC and LCMS experience is with already established methods. Any tips?

Does anyone work in an area with lots of exterior environmental noise (traffic, concerts, trains, etc.) and have tips for not becoming overwhelmed and/or distracted by it? I’m finding that environmental noise has increased near my office now that tourism has picked back up in my city, and I’m struggling to block it out. I’ve tried earplugs but the noises tend to vibrate my office building so the earplugs don’t work well as an entire block.

How do you all deal with time management - and specifically time estimate - problems?

I always underestimate how long things will take, both because we ADHD’ers view time differently and because I don’t build in time for getting distracted.

I work with a partner who asks me by when I can get something done rather than giving a deadline. I appreciate the flexibility but I always short sell myself and end up pulling all-nighters to meet my self-imposed unrealistic deadlines.

After 4 years I want to leave law because of my adhd! I have been to 4 different firms and at each place I feel like I have been “found out”. At every place at least one attorney catches me about my attention to detail. I am so down on myself now. I can’t bring myself to care about small details that I know don’t actually matter. Sitting at a desk all day in word documents is the ultimate form of torture to me. My strengths are talking to people. I am super outgoing. Looking for a new career

I saw a new PCP in a new city and finally talked about how I believe I may have ADHD (I’m 40), particularly based on things I’ve read here. He suggested I talk to a psychologist first, but I’m having the hardest time getting an appt with anyone in the area. Has anyone used Teladoc and have any recs? Alternatively, does anyone have recs of anyone I can to talk to so I can be tested?
