"What am I supposed to do?!" Everything you're already doing, unfortunately: casting a very wide net and applying to anything and everything. Aside from that, all you can do is wait for an offer to come along and potentially look at filing for unemployment (if you haven't already) and picking up side gigs. I'm in the same position, so you have my sympathies. It's a really stressful and discouraging time.
It is hard right now. My suggestion if there a dry spell reach out to friends etc for suggestion. I took a job outside of the mortgage industry to have some mo ey and pay my bills
I am in a similar predicament . I have even taken the advise of the unemployment jobconnect agent and literally cyber stalked the hiring manager for joinmosaic for a quality position that my experiences matches exactly, to after 2 weeks of no responses be told my resume isn’t what they are looking for however my experience and skills match the job perfectly . I’m not sure what is going on but it is rough ! I suggest not to give up and still keep following up with hr personnel and hiring managers. I use LinkedIn, indeed and glassdoor. Another suggestion from UI was to google when local job fairs are happening in your area . Take a bunch of resumes , dress professional and give it a try ! Good luck !
Thanks, I'm doing the same pretty much. Still hoping my contract position takes me on perm. But it's a thin hope. I've done jobs fairs before and they're terrible to be honest. All the jobs nobody wants, very low pay etc. But will keep an eye out. Stay strong!
I accepted a lower paying role as an MBA holder in Finance, you're not alone. This is almost tragic because I'm paying $1,000 to rent a bedroom to sleep in!
That's insane. Some roles insist on an MBA, but then they want to pay pittance for it too. Absolutely horrendous.
Have you worked your personal network? I'm currently working on getting 3 former coworkers new jobs at my new company and I'm able to make some headway. The key is to find someone you know that can get your application to the top of the stack.
So many people are looking for work right now that each job is getting hundreds of applications. So having someone who can talk to the hiring manager directly is probably your best bet
Thanks, yeah I am working it. Will continue to push!
I am sorry to hear this. I have several friends that have been applying for jobs for over a year and can't seem to find anything. I know this is a very hard job market to be looking for a new job in. Hang in there and keep applying. I would also post in the job referral bowl if you haven't already.
You can spend this down time training for something else! Two - or three skill sets will keep a roof over your head and food.
I’ve spent 29 years as a tech writer and during lean times I make and sell pottery. I’m looking for other avenues myself. Don’t lock your life in only one box.
Tough to find the time as I'm still actually working currently, coming to the end of a contract. Plus kids 😬
If there is anything you can do, in addition to your job hunting I would do it. Luckily I have a side gig as a landscape designer, but it's not always busy for me. If you can do some sort of side job until you land something permanent I would try that. I've also been applying for roles with significantly lower pay, but no luck with anything after 5 months. We need to stay positive! Wishing you success soon!!!
Wow, I'd be homeless if that was me 😳
I am not trying to be insensitive, but when my sister gave birth at fifteen years old, she did the only thing she could. Small town and few to no options. She took a job at McDonald's. It was not a sufficient job, but she worked all she could. My Father, and I had to step in with needed help with diapers and stuff to make it all work. It gave her an unshakable work ethic that continues today. Sometimes we have to humble ourselves to do a menial job. Like a grocery store or something. Hell, I even considered sitting outside Costco and offer delivery of a TV that people cannot fit in their car. Offer it at $100 a pop. You can resume your career when it comes back. Involve your God, and move forward.
I finally landed a role, two simple rounds. The relief is amazing.
