Depends on what you want and what your technical focus is. Also which office.
Quinn does the most plaintiffs work, and conflicts could present a problem if you’re coming from a big defense firm. I have litigated opposite QE and would absolutely never dream of joining them, but for some people it’s the right fit.
OMM has an excellent, albeit small (in terms of personnel) life sciences practice. I think their high tech folks do a lot of ITC work. I’ve litigated against them and found them smart but reasonable. Life sciences folks are in NYC whereas tech is mostly in California.
Orrick is really aggressively recruiting right now, particularly in the life sciences after having brought in a new partner. Their patent appellate practice is also very good. The firm seems to be extremely invested into building out their patent lit practice.
GDC leans tech but also has some good life sciences work. The firm is, as a whole, probably the most prestigious of all of these. The majority of their patent lit practice is in NYC.
My focus is placing IP associates. All excellent firms, but your personality and the type of environment where you’ll thrive will make or break any firm for you. Quinn is great for some, others couldn’t be paid enough to be there. (No shade at them specifically, just as an example.) I’m sure you’re citing those firms for a reason, so you know what to generally expect from each. Ultimately, taking meetings and seeing them firsthand will give you the best feel for how you’d fit into the platform and if you can see yourself there for a few years or longer.
