This exact circumstance is literally my biggest fear. I am so sorry this happened to you and am so glad your 8 month old is okay. You made a mistake, do not beat yourself up.
It was the first time I’ve had a moment where I was thinking to myself, this can’t really be happening, it can’t be undone, how do I wind the clock back 30 seconds. looking at the stairs, I’m still amazed at how perfect she had to roll down to avoid any harm. It keeps running through my head, what would have happened if she fell at any other angle or end over end
Good reminder. We were at a resort beach/pool area a couple days ago and I lost my daughter for what seemed like forever (maybe it was 5 minutes). Just thinking about what could have happened is so scary. She ended up by the bar and two servers were talking to her and she was calmly saying. I am lost. Can you help me find my daddy. She held it together, barely cried. So proud of her.
That’s amazing she was so composed! I’m sure every minute felt like 15. Can’t imagine what that would be like.
One of my biggest fears with my 4month old. Thanks for the reminder and I'm glad your child is fine.
When we had our first baby we lived in a beautiful townhouse that had a lot of stairs, my wife was understandably anxious about the stairs for fear of baby fall, so I carpeted the all the stairs and put up gates. Two years later sold it for a single floor home and never been happier with the choice as we had our second child.
I’m so sorry this happened OP. We had the opposite, she was standing on the floor holding onto the bottom stair when her foot slipped and she toppled over and fell onto the hardwood floor. Had a goose egg bruise and everything. Worst day of my life. I saw what happened but it looked like she had fallen down all the stairs. So I know what happened but my brain is like ‘btw this is what would happen if your daughter fell down the stairs’.
She is 2 now and much more robust but I never forget that day.
I know what you mean, I can’t help but think about what other outcome could have happened even though everything worked out. Worst day of my life as well. Glad to hear your daughter healed and all is well!
Put a low pile carpet on those stairs that runs up the center
