If you've got an employment gap of 13 years that's just going to be an obstacle. Most hiring managers would have questions about that. Perhaps you could speak to some disability advocates and get some guidance about getting back into the workforce. There are probably ways to facilitate your transition back into the working life, but just applying for jobs with that big of a gap on your resume is going to be problematic.
Thank you very much. That was my thought as well. I just did not want to make my résumé too long or have too much information ahead of the experience that is pertinent to the position on applying for.
Hello Dominick,
Thank you for sharing this, your experience and persistence truly matter. Long employment gaps due to disability don’t erase your skills or value. One helpful approach is to shift your resume focus toward skills, achievements, and recent training or projects, rather than dates. A functional or hybrid resume format can help reduce automated rejections and better highlight your strengths.
I actually know someone who helped my brother overcome similar challenges and get back into the workforce. You can reach him at:

Stay encouraged, with the right resume strategy, your experience can finally get the attention it deserves.
Thank you
Chief
A 13 year gap is hard to overcome… have you taken any opportunities to further your education? Volunteered regularly? A part of any organizations where you’ve taken a leadership position?
I think that might differentiate…
Thank you very much

I feel this, also disabled and also applied for close to 2000 jobs in the last 18 months. Try applying for federal or local government jobs designated for disabled. xo
Thanks I’m gonna start doing that. I actually have applied to about 10 local government jobs but never heard back from any of them.
