I thought it’s after the first trimester when people usually go public with it?
Wait until bare minimum 4 months - any earlier is completely unnecessary. 5 months is normal. Don’t think there would be any issue at 6 months either.

You don’t need to report it until you are asking for leave. Maybe give a month notice for that leave. She can tell her HR and management whenever she wants, but typical is after 12 weeks. Sometimes later. I told at 6 months and it was more than enough time to plan coverage, etc. I’m a fan of late disclosures since you never know what’s going on and people do, in fact, treat you differently.
In my office you get a max 6 months of leave. Most people start their leave a few days to a week before their due date. I worked right up until my two were born so I could have more time off after. And with WFH there is no commute, plus most items are in transition or fully transitioned that close to baby arriving.
Oh and congrats!
Like VP said, there’s no need to report immediately. At 5/6 months is *plenty* of time to find coverage and plan transitions.
She should tell her manager first and they will likely guide her through the next steps (which will be HR).
Congratulations!
Note: this all assumes healthy pregnancy and baby with the normal amount of appointments. If your wife needs medical attention or bed rest or something earlier, it might push to disclose earlier.
Thanks, G1!
After 12 weeks, maybe even 20.
If a job can adjust in under two weeks after layoffs they can adjust to a pregnancy.
I told at ~23 weeks and worked until the night I went into labor (WFH- during covid).
To all - My question was about when it’s the appropriate time to report the pregnancy. I never said that I am going to advise her to talk to hr now at 5 weeks. Thanks!
Wait until after you’ve told everyone else in your life that you want to know. This is a job and those other people are more important. As others have said, 2 months is plenty of notice.
Congratulations. All good advice here. Definitely share with those in your life first and enjoy the moment. She may want to share with her manager and team so they can support her through the good days and the not so great days along the way. One question on the eve of this new chapter in your lives - how does she feel about the term “wifey”?
She is a sr. manager. And my wifey and she fees great about it!
Deloitte has the policy she can pull it down and check. I think it needs to be at least 2/3 months earlier to request family leave so you don’t have to report to Hr until it’s almost 3rd trimester. I told my team after 1st trimester since I just want them to get prepared that I won’t be there for the archiving after busy season
I waited 6 months. I figured 3 months is plenty of time to arrange coverage.
I told my SM right when we found out (at 6 weeks) and I’ll probably do that again if we have a second kid. Since I told my boss early there were never problems with me taking personal days to go to the ultrasounds and I could be there for my wife on days that she didn’t feel great.
Thanks you!
Congratulations! I waited until I was past the first trimester (~14 weeks) because I’m bid as key personnel on my contract and there are certain requirements that would need to be met for a backfill while I was out, so I wanted to let my leadership know sooner than later. We didn’t start my actual transition plan until I was around ~6 months pregnant.

Btw, you are clearly excited! That’s great! Put your energy into planning a little vacation at 6 month mark to celebrate and relax!
I'm in individual tax and when I found out I would miss all of busy season I let my senior manager know before I even told all of my family. It was also close to when they started scheduling so I wanted to make sure they accounted for it.
I would wait.

Congrats!!
