Again, though you have never heard it, it happens. Experienced SMS here and SMs with niche skills maybe, but majority of 1-3 SMs at EY are not even cracking 180. Why so many are leaving. The offer is on par with what folks at your yrs at level are making. Just want to make sure you make a truly informed decision.
EY1, I think OP is saying that Deloitte typically brings people from other firms in one level lower than they were (eg senior managers at other firms come in D as managers). Most ppl that leave get a job at the next level at other firms. There are some ppl that make the argument to come to D at the same level, but they usually need to have years experience at that level plus strong relationships
Ask for 175k. They’re lowballing you and you’re giving up a network to start a new one. Not worth it for a less than sizable bump.
Not one person mentioned that the EY practice in NYC is canning people left and right in the last year. Not a good sign.
Personally I don’t think that is enough of a raise to make the switch you are proposing when considering the time and effort involved in rebuilding a network.
That is a lot of time and isn’t always very easy.
As for bonuses one of my close friends is at ey and probably rated higher than I am and regularly get better bonuses than they do.
You might be going into a practice that doesn't pay well. What they're offering you is very low for a Sr manager. That's a manager salary. In EY the pay bands are so drastically wide that no one knows what the average pay for a rank is. We have plenty of managers making more than that.
Garbage D6 and D7. Unless you have worked at EY don't assume you know. Having spent several yrs a D prior to EY I can tell you that SM here is DM there and I am an SM. And I still to this day get hit up to come back to the green dot at an SM level.
Ey4, I have several examples. I didn't try to represent it as the only way we bring folks in, but I'd guess it is between 40% & 60%or the time.
Noticed you opted to only pick up on half that message. We definitely don't promote via the hiring process which, respectfully, doesn't bode well for EY. That part ain't kool-aid.
EY1, I cannot refute who is calling you. But it is a bad practice to hire someone in at a level higher. After enough time I'm sure we'd hire back at the higher level. I know we have policies against doing so quickly.
Also, it is a small world. Know plenty of EY folks. The examples of which I am aware are constant having to play down a position. But they also get to wear more hats and feel like they are building something.
D7 I did not state that we over hired. We got rid of low performer's, which was the first time in 5+ years for many practices. I would take EY over D any day
Recruiter told me EY PI manager band is 145-200. I would ask for $185k. Another factor to consider - how likely are you going to get promoted at D?
I am an SM2. 155. That sounds about right. Just sucks cuz Deloitte does pay better so to an extent keeps you at a minimum for what u can make. But you will be an SM.
I am pretty sure it will be close to 165 with next promotion (Sep2018)
D3 I agree. I think it depends on years at level. A SM that is 5 years in is not going to D at the Mgr level. However an SM at level 1 year might have to go backwards. I think it all comes down to skill set, years working, if you have a network where you are going, etc. and not all firms promote up either. Again depends on yrs at level.
That sounds super low to me. I’d hope there is a big variable component.
You’ll make $200k all day at D as a Sr Mgr. I’d hang tight if I was you.
Seems low. I am targeting an offer of $170 in EY OTS practice for an M. SM should be much higher. Not sure if the pay should be that different for Financial advisory.
@ M2 - TAS gets paid more than National Advisory and FSO Advisory.
I make more than that now in a tier-3 city. OP is being low-balled for sure.
I’d also dig deeper into what a typical Sr Manager bonus is in that practice.
Maybe, but Sr Manager bonus at EY would likely be better than manager at D
Not sure about all verticals in EY, but I know people in TAS who are making $190+ at Manager level..
$165 sounds low to me for a new SM, especially in NYC. I make more than that as a mgr and know several others who do. Try to go for 190-200
Just curious... for these managers how many years working 5-7 or 12-14 etc... sorry but 6-7 yrs work exp no mba does not get you 190-200. And for you OP how many yrs in the workforce?
