Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).

Boundaries are incredibly important.
You need to be certain that your willingness to pitch in and go above and beyond is an exception, and not an expectation of the norm.
If you help, people will keep coming back until you say no. And saying no is OK.
You have to make those “invisible tasks” visible and try to quantify them. Otherwise, you’ll continue to be ridden with them.
It is part of being a sales engineer. They should not interfere with revenue generating tasks but these projects can still be important. I would also make note of these projects and their outcomes so you can use it as leverage for promotion and salary increase.
Make yourself and these tasks visible by constantly showing the progress, difficulties and results of all the work u put in
Make sure your manager is aware, and let him know what you won't be able to do if you dedicate time to the projects.
If you feel strongly it will reduce revenue you should voice that so your manager can get you removed from the project.

Ideally you would talk to your manager and he/you would set expectations with the project leads on your availability.
If that’s not possible, then this is when I throw all project leads on an email with my manager and ask what is the highest priority/how much effort should be given to each.
