Yes people notice the interns that have the attention to detail. You'll stand apart from the ones that miss small details INSTANTLY.

Be prepared to learn and network. Ask lots of questions. Take notes, and jot down anything that doesn't make sense to you to ask about later. Be humble to feedback and receptive to constructive criticism. Stay curious and compare what you think you know to what you learn from your time observing. Have fun!

all great tips. And take advantage of the opportunities to network. They open doors for when you're looking for a full time job.

I always like to recommend something a bit off the wall like exploring options outside of your immediate interest. Sometimes we get so focused on what we think we want that we don't give ourselves the chance to even consider alternate routes, which I think can be equally as insightful.

THIS! One of the things that my manager did for me when I first started as an intern was put me on a variety of work. I ended up going in the direction I thought I wanted to from the get go but that early experience working in other disciplines has helped me have a better understanding of the types of works colleagues do and the role my work plays in the bigger picture.

Means you are milking thjs group for insights you are not able to come up with yourself?

Think about your experience and portfolio- are there are any holes? Any areas where you want to get experience and grow (aside from what you’re supporting)?

Set up informational calls with people you don’t work with regularly to learn about their job, network, etc.

I agree with the first two comments. I always tell interns to network as much as they can and meet as many people as they can. The relationships they build now are very important and can help them out years down the road. You never know who you are going to meet.

you never know who may be able to open a door for you down the line.

Be proactive, suggest ideas, ask for constructive feedback “what can I do better?” Learn the industry that you’re working in, set Google alerts for your clients and their competitors so you’re the first in the know, share important news with your team. Read industry trades in PR, Marketing and Advertising. Talk to everybody and stay in touch so they can be part of your future network.

+1 on getting in your client's business and knowing what is going on in their world. An intern that knows how to be proactive is an intern that has better odds of being able to stick around.

Anyone have advice for advancing in your current role? My co-worker was hired in at manager level but somehow “proved” he was actually doing director level work and got a title promotion and salary increase in less than a year. I also went above and beyond my job as well (covering for him for a month while he was away on paternity leave) while taking on other projects outside of my job title and got zip—no raise or recognition.
