S&P Global Anyone here work at S&P Global? I’m a project manager who has been with the company for a few years. My position has changed at review time the last few years, so I’ve never gone through the raise process. What percentages have you seen with the company? I’m feeling a bit overworked at this point and don’t want to have my expectations higher than what is reasonable, but also feel like I’ll need a large-ish chunk of cash to feel better about how much I’m working. Do you have a project lined up if you’re going to Accenture and is it long term? Are you ok with the travel or long “local” commute? Will your spouse be working if you’re relocating? 180k doesn’t seem like it’ll go very far in SF. You can always return to Accenture later in your career but your life milestones with your kids will only happen once
I don’t have specific ideas what the project pipeline looks like but after speaking with leadership the skill set is in high demand and in the SF area too. Thanks for the thoughts. Also am concerned about return to Accenture in future. Hoping I don’t burn the bridge if I have to turn down the offer
Does your wife work? Family of 4 living off 180k in SF will be very rough. My budgeting spreadsheet cried when I put in the expenses for a second child living in the Bay Area. Expect to basically save nothing. 180k after taxes will be about 120k or 10k a month. daycare/school will run you 3500 a month for two kids. Rent will likely be 4-5k. So 1500-2500 per month left for everything else (food, utilities, kids activities, vacations, insurance, 401k, etc)
Consultant 2: yes wife works currently in Chicago with JP Morgan Chase will transition to a new role which we are currently working and searching for around d SF area
Since you’re asking the gentlemen I will just keep my feminine opinions to myself 🤷🏻♀️✌🏻
Just edit your first post OP 😂
Reading your responses, I think you are secretly in love with Accenture and see your permanent love/life there. Don’t be so naive- there are other fishes in the ocean. Dare to dream big and different. Take the industry role and you will have other avenues open. The salary and non-relocation makes it a no brainer but don’t ask me, I hate Chicago winters!
KPMG1 I love the response and how u put it. Love Accenture with a passion I know I can/will MD in 5yrs max. But I think the other fishes option will work for now. This is the best thought I have seen tonight. You’re a life saver. Thanks for sharing. Can I negotiate for more wt the industry offer
Buried in here is that op apparently verbally accepted the ACN offer.
I say go industry, no relo and “local” Bay Area projects are not exactly commuter friendly. Consulting will never go away, if you really miss it there will be other potentially better opportunities with or without ACN
Accenture 2: this is most appreciated! Would work around this today or Monday
@OP - you should do what makes you happy but I want to focus on one of your statements: “I know I’ll make MD in 5 years.”
I don’t say this to discourage you, but as a former Accenture manager, and having worked at a competitor, it’s naive to think the path to MD / Partner / equivalent is guaranteed or even linear. At Accenture and its competitors, most Senior Managers never make MD. I did a back of the envelope “estimation” once and it comes out to MAYBE 10%-20% of the senior manager population ever make MD / partner. This also after the roughly 50%-70% of managers making senior manager / director / equivalent.
Again, take the role that makes you happy. Shoot for the career path you want. But go in with clear eyes knowing that the odds are against you, or you’ll walk away bitter years down the line not having realized a goal you thought was promised.
Good luck OP...whatever you decide, clearly you’re doing well and have multiple career options. That’s a testament to your hard work thus far and the skills you’ve accumulated. Congrats and best of luck going forward. We’re all rooting for you!
This is the Global topmost player in the chemical microprocessor industry in Chicago. I live in Chicago currently in a family of 4. My concerns are in 3 areas (1) I hold multiple Workday certifications and joining industry means I loose all or is it? (2) I don’t mind moving to SF but I worry about the changes my family will have to go through (3) I love the return to ACCENTURE as I started out my career with Accenture and consider the role a great fit as I know I will make MD or some huge impact in 5 years max. However am worried about the travels.
The ACCENTURE role pays $180k with relocation and sign-on bonus $25k and relocation while the other offer in industry in Chicago offers $170k and bonus but can be negotiated! Both offers came in today and both.
What I do gentlemen. Pls ask all you can and feel free to throw stabs at me as long as I see value in the responses/comment/sugggestions thanking you all already
You seem to have a family and possibly kids - I’d say go for the industry offer. But be careful of SF costs - they might burn a hole in your pocket! All the best!
Seems like you'd have a happier, and more financially successful life in Chicago considering you won't have to move your family and will get more bang for your buck. I'm sure your work hours will be much better too. IDK, I would take happiness and a comfortable life over the possibility of making a bit more money in the future
OP 180 just for Manager is incredibly high already and you know the double bonus pool is nice too. I see your love for Accenture and I think you should go with Accenture for a year or two and see where it takes you. If anything more doors will open.
