Had a job interview for a job at a competitor firm, that I was more than qualified for. Ended on what I assumed was a good note (would say they were eager asked me how quickly I wanted a response). My asking pay was on the higher range (asked for 180k, have 3 years experience) (their range was $145-200k, posting 3-8 years experience). The interview was on a Thursday, I got an auto rejection Monday. Could you please shed light on what could have possibly happened? Was my pay request too high?

We can’t know exactly what happened, but you might have priced yourself out of the role, or they simply had another interviewee that was better fit and so it might not have mattered what number you said.

You had the minimum amount of experience they wanted, so to come in at the high end of their comp range was probably a problem. Especially if they had other candidates with more experience.

like

Hard to say. You are leading us to say its the comp since that is really the only info you are giving us about the interview. I would argue it wasn't the comp. Even though you are on the low end of the experience they wanted, any reasonable person isn't going to ask for the low end of the comp. You aren't that far off from where you'd probably land had they decided to hire you. They can offer you whatever they want, it doesn't need to be what you ask for and then you can always turn it down. Unless you call and ask why, there's really no way to tell. It could be as simple as something at the firm caused them to not need or want to hire someone anymore even. It could be a number of things.

Tech - AWS and .NET

Also an indicative range of CTC I should ask for will be helpful. Currently I'm underpaid at 20.1L as I worked in the same company for 12 years.

Boomer. I am in between jobs. Laid off in 10/21 after 16+ yrs, with an ABA firm. RIF. Still on excellent terms. Took my time living off generous package and didn’t seriously start applying until 01/22. Made a rookie mistake and accepted first offer.
Turns out job wasn’t as advertised. Mutual parting of ways 3/22. Due diligence is critical.
Now interviewing a LOT. Some temp work, I still have “it”. I relate to all gens. Willing to mentor AND learn from all. Tech savvy, CTE from day one. Leads?

I feel like I was straight up lied to during the interview process. “lots of opportunities to hit quota”. I’m sitting here with only one demo two months after joining the company. it looks like our team has only two people doing demos, and demos are only happening once every two weeks. At this rate, I don’t think I’ll be even close to hitting OTE. Are there any other companies hiring right now? I’ll have a discussion about my concerns with my manager soon, but there’s too many red flags here.
