I personally found it helpful to have people come around during the day. You have to wake up anyway at night if you are seriously trying to establish breastfeeding. I had help with normal housework, my meals, and watching the baby while I had daytime naps. I also had very significant help in the form of people who watched me & baby do side-lying nursing while I had semi-naps/rested: I would really recommend this as side-lying nursing is a game-changer but in the beginning I was very worried about risks.
I think the model of "you take care of baby, others take care of you" is ideal in the early months.
My acupuncturist said in China there is no ppd because the mom feeds the baby and other people do literally everything else for the first month
We did and it was an absolute game changer. Our night doula came 1-2 times a week for the first couple of months. We’d get a good nights sleep and wake up to folded laundry, meals prepped, and pumping/bottle parts sterilized and organized. It was incredible. So worth the investment.
I did this with my 4th and I wish I’d done it with all of them. Oh. My. Gamechanger. I did 3 nights a week then almost immediately upped her to 5 nights a week. Yes I was still up for an hour every 2-3 hrs (I was an over producer so I’d have to pump after nursing too) but my doula would take my LO and burp and change and put back to sleep for me so o could pump. Then she’d come down and make me a snack (I don’t know how many times I cried because of sliced apples or a scrambled egg haha) and then she’d would clean all my pump parts and even helped me with laundry. I had Ana for 13 weeks and I still text with her (2.5yrs later). That woman saved my life and sanity and I will shout from the rooftops that if you can even MAYBE afford it, do it. DO IT.
I don’t but absolutely am considering budgeting it in for next child if we have one. I am exhausted 2 months pp and gave up breastfeeding/pumping after a month in large part due to lack of support.
The Momcozy dishwasher is the only reason I lasted as long as I did with pumping - cleaning bottles and parts is a part time job
My friend did it! It was a benefit from her spouses company. She said it was lovely and she wouldn’t get out of bed, they brought baby to her then took baby away, changed diaper and resettled. She did like 3-4 nights a week for 3 weeks.
