I feel like every few weeks this surfaces in one way or another. Best strategy is to take the Blue line ANYWHERE OUTSIDE OHARE then Uber. I take it all the way to Logan Square then Uber home (LP) and it’s by far the quickest path to get from jet to couch. Godspeed
Will do this next time, thanks!
The Uber wait out of O’Hare especially during peak Thursday evening hours are notoriously bad. I think there’s only one entrance/exit to get in and out of the holding lot and it’s a stop sign intersection. The drivers are probably as annoyed as you (and the rest of us) are
Also I heard they also got rid of the rematch (where you could get lucky and matched with a driver who just dropped off) and that’s a lose-lose for drivers and riders
Uber lot is notoriously awful at ORD. The drivers are trying to come to you but can’t. Canceling on them basically screws them over so plan 20min in advance from when you arrive to the pickup spot and you’re golden.
Also Uber platinum and diamond now have priority pickup from airports
Just take a cab, so much faster
Spoken with some drivers about this and it’s a total nightmare for the drivers. Another reason to fly into MDW!
I Uber as soon as I land and the Uber is almost there when I am at the exit.
Taxis are severely underrated. No thanks to blue line when im taking a carry on and trying to navigate which corner to be picked up by especially for wicker Park or something similar
Blue line is so much faster as long as it’s not cold
I have gone back to cabs too. Prefer Lyft bit too painful for airport pickup
I just have the same guy that drives me to/from airport. He was my Uber guy and I liked him and his car, and I just asked him if he’d mind picking me up and dropping me off. He doesn’t. I pay him directly so he saves on Uber fees and I don’t have to ever worry about waiting or stuck with someone I don’t like.
I do this it worked out well , but a good friend did this and they had an accident on way home became a bit of a insurance issue
I’ve said this on a previous post before and it works for me EVERY WEEK. Just order and cancel Lyfts until you get one that is already on the highway on it’s way into ohare. You can see when they are still in the designated lot. You may need to order/cancel like 3-4 times before you get one, but it’s worth it. 5 minute wait once you secure one
Just use normal cabs. More expensive but you're not paying so who cares.
Waited 40 min at the airport last night trying to be nice and not cancelling on the driver trying to get out of the lot. And then the driver cancelled on me!!!! 🤦🏻♀️ taxi is the way to go
Hmm. Good to know other people don’t think it’s a conspiracy. I’ve never had the problem at midway so it would make sense that it is slow if the holding lot is trash.
It’s the new regulations that the city has put on them - they all have to go into the rideshare lot now, and I’m pretty sure they can only leave in the order that they came in.
Not to mention that the intersection leading in and out of the rideshare lot is a 4 way stop with like 16 lanes, so it’s a total nightmare. I’ve started taking the blue line to Belmont and then ubering home from there (I live in Lakeview, so it’s pretty fast doing that, as you avoid the rideshare lot nonsense and any traffic on the highway).
Classic situation of the government trying to fix an issue and making it worse.
You’re making the assumption that the government wanted to improve it rather than make it worse to help cabs
It's not the drivers, it's the system of pick up at Ohare. It's been in the evening news cause it's so bad.
I taxi on thursdays. More expensive, but more efficient
Wow I haven’t waited more than 5 minutes for a taxi now all these people are taking Uber’s!
