I've offered to be a reference for one of my employees as they searched for another job. Other CDs trying to hire her felt weird about me being a reference since I was her current employer, but I've always maintained a clear line of communication with anyone I've hired. We only rent creatives, so I try my hardest to want to make them stay. When forces beyond my control take over, who am I to hate? If they're good, our paths will cross again – as they have.
Wow this Apple bug is annoying.
Totally depends on the kind of relationship you have with your CD.
What if it’s not a bug, and Apple just wants people to stop talking about themselves so much?
CD1 - need an art director? You sound awesome
@sr cw1, ad1, I will be soon. Where r u based? Also, thanks for the compliment.
Are you their friend? Or just their employee? I’ve never dared consider doing that, personally.
I have, they were happy to help. It wasn't a big deal as long as you have an honest and solid relationship. They also had mentioned it before "if you ever need a connection at xyz..."
I️ would say we are close, and know he would too. He knows I️ love working with him, but he’s not the only person I️ report to, so I️ don’t get to work with him as much as I’d like. I think he also knows there are other factors that would make me look elsewhere. Just still not sure it’s appropriate.
😂 thought the same thing AD1
And I’ve been friends with a few of my CDs as well. I still wouldn’t feel comfortable unless I wasn’t working directly under them. I️ think it could give the impression that I don’t like working with said CD, and get their heads spinning on something that’s not even true. But if you’re working under someone else, especially after working under them, they might be more inclined to understand (albeit, narcissistically).
@cd1, smack dab in the middle of nowhere Chicago.
I’d say just feel it out, and if you think it’s right in the moment then just ask. Every situation is different, but I’d maybe try asking outside of work if possible.
