This is such a good thing! Honestly having a good relationship with clients at account director level helps account managers like me fly!
Most likely just a chemistry check. Making sure you like them and visa-versa. Make sure you’re informed on their business and (check their backgrounds on LinkedIn) and be ready to talk successes / challenges and ask them the same thing - what are they worried about / need help on and what are they excited about near term.
It usually happens when the client has asked the previous person off the account. So, for the agency, it’s an obligation to ensure the chemistry and capability for the client is right.
This is considered co-employment and is a sign the account or operations manager does not have the trust of the client. If the client trusts the company, it doesn’t matter who’s hired the job will be completed in a professional and proactive manner.
I haven’t but have only been at one place. This feels like an advantage/a good thing for you maybe? How do you feel about it?
Old account had incoming Group Account Director meet with the CMO after old Director was fired at the request of CMO.
I was asked to meet the client two times, each as the final stage in the interview process. Both times it was a semi-casual lunch, and allowed both parties to get to know the other on a business and personal basis before we were “married.”
It means you’re just about to get an offer, and should be looked at as a positive and final chance to do a chemistry check.
That's a good sign. Just don't ask irrelevant questions and keep a friendly and light vibe. Avoid looking stiff and just relax. Be confident because confidence makes a lot of difference.
Yes and I love when this happens. You can look for red flags.
