What's the round tables timeline for NE Audit?
Think they did a good job on this piece. It was a truly embarrassing moment for the firm, but I think it’s being handled as well as can be expected. Should go smoothly this year 🤞

I’ve seen this from both sides. As a senior I was successful. I prepared a letter/speech that I read to my career manager (I was very young and nervous and reading something made it easier) about why I enjoyed working at my firm what I didn’t like and wish would change and then told them that I had received an offer which was a lot of money so I had to consider it. I also let them know I didn’t really want to leave but the offer was too tempting not to consider. They ended up giving me a raise and guaranteed bonus for the next year. However, I’ve been on the other side where people have come to us with offer to matcg. Basically if you are good and they need you they will try to match or beat your offer. If you aren’t a high performer they will just say good luck in your new role. You have to be prepared for both outcomes.
I just got one but my office is desperate to keep people right now
Yup I’m a senior 3 in audit
You have to be prepared to leave if you are willing to do this. I did it once when I was a senior associate and they ended up matching it so I stayed. I did it again when I was a supervisor about 2 years after and they told me they couldn’t compete with the offer and I ended up leaving. Ultimately I am glad I left but if you counter you basically have to be ready to leave it they don’t match otherwise it would be embarrassing to stay.
I think it’d be hard to pull off getting a counteroffer during the current times - what group are you in and what promotion are you wanting to get?
Lol GT once counter offered an exceeding senior for 15k less than what they already accepted at a Big 4, pre-COVID. It honestly felt like an insult and made me wonder why they even tried.
I gave notice and the firm gave me 15k more salary and 10k stay bonus.

In industry- yes. It can be tricky and I still ended up leaving a year later.
Won’t happen at GT in our current state. I discussed this with several people at the firm at the PPMD level before deciding on moving on.
If you are ready for that promotion, I don’t see why not. Just keep in mind that from a career perspective, it’s a card that can realistically only be used once at a given company.
Depends on your performance, level and business need. I know of a close friend of mine senior level (recently promoted), HCL area at a national firm that was able to push salary from 75 to 83 thanks to a big 4 offer (1 months ago)
It’s best to voice your compensation concerns prior to shopping around. They are likely to revisit your comp, related performance and market. If you are a good performer and someone that they want to retain, they will make adjustments or explain why not. Playing the game of having another offer in hand demonstrates a lack of commitment or loyalty and they will view you as someone likely to eventually leave and may not not be willing to invest as much development into you if you stay. A chance you take. Honesty is always the best policy. Players will always play. Sometimes they win. Sometimes they lose. If you want to stay somewhere, communicate and have the kind of trusted relationship with partners that they will work with you. It has worked for me.
I agree and disagree with this. If you frame it the right way a competing offer isn’t always bad. The way I would frame it (and something I have done in the past) is say how much you love the firm and how you saw yourself as a “lifer” for a long time but do to XYZ changes recently I don’t feel like I am valued as much as I used to be and want to work for a firm who values my work ethic, determination, etc. I ended up interviewing just to see what else was out there and ended up getting another offer that is a lot more. I really don’t want to leave but the compensation would be life changing and is really hard to pass up. I haven’t made a decision but just thought you should be the first to know. I will let you know my decision by Friday but just wanted to be transparent. I did this exactly almost to script above on a Wednesday. Partner called me back Thursday morning and matched my salary (30K more than I was making currently, supervisor). You need leverage though. If you aren’t one of the top performers on your team don’t try this.
I tried this in a better economic situation, with high performance reviews, at a Big 4. Nothing could be guaranteed but an 8k bonus. I was at the top of the pay band though.
I've only ever used this when I was truly at a headspace where them saying no meant I'd be fine moving on, and if they said yes to a raise/changes I'd be good staying.
my 20s were full of examples of not being proactive enough with talking raises/thinking and talking about career vs this month, this project
