Has anyone taken a compliance counsel position when having no background in it? How was the experience? How difficult is it to pick up on the job?

I'm non US citizen and thinking of moving back to EU. My plan is getting remote opportunities across the world and work as a freelancer. My speciality is Data analytics and BI (Qlikview, Tableau). 1) How likely I can get a gig from the US? 2) if a job looking for a remote 2-3 months contract do they care what country I'm in? 3) how can I compete Indian rates as I'm in Europe 60-70$ per hour as a BI consultant is a good rate but I see online rates as low 10$😫?

I was very specialized at my law firm and took a similarly specialized role in-house….but I still get requests to mark-up types of agreements that I never touched at my firm. Salary check. I am currently an in house attorney. 12 YOE. Large company with great coworkers doing regulatory work for the insurance industry. Good work life balance. I live in a high COL city. Out of curiosity and to test the market, I interviewed at a FAANG. Did not get the job, but found out TC was 350k, significantly higher than my TC 230k. I thought I was compensated fairly, but would love to see your thoughts.

When someone has a gap (up to 6 months) between a big law job and their first in house application, do you assume they were laid off? Would you advise a candidate to actively share why they took a break, if it wasn’t a lay off?

Career dev advice needed. Being offered a promotion (would be reporting to my current skip and managing/growing a team). The role is global subsidiary management/governance. But the work does not appeal to me, I’ve been doing some of it and it’s so much admin and people management. I’m not practicing law at all. Love my current IC role and manager, get to work on strategic transactions and closer to the business. If my goal is head of corp legal one day, should I suck it up and go for it? Thnx!
