I second A1. If you were going to quit anyway, why not try this for a year and see what happens? You have little to lose. The doors that will open to you once you are GC may not all be legal.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I drafted two emails, one accepting the offer end one turning down the offer and imagined sending both. I was positively gleeful imagining pressing send on declining the offer so that’s what I decided to do. My dream is to start my own business so that’s what I’m going to do. Wish me luck!!!
Congrats and good luck!!
I went in-house 15 months ago after a couple of successful decades of private practice left me emotionally spent.
It’s a totally different job, at least in my case, even though the substantive work would be described similarly, and that’s resulted in a total mental and career refresh for me.
That being said, after 20+ years of doing this, I wasn’t going to change careers altogether, so the comparison isn’t perfect, obviously.
What were you planning on doing? Can you take a gap between jobs and then take this in house gig to see how you like it? Nothing stopping you from quitting and going back to your original idea if you still want to do that in a year or so.
