Random Tangent: After year end results were delivered, staff received meager 3.8% adjustments, which is far from the news reports of 7.9% USA inflation. In short, essentially everyone in the company just took a paycut. And yet there's bafflement in the C suite when we see less than a week later a handful of key contributors leaving.

Anybody out here know of any “development programs” for mid career professionals looking to transition to sales? Have a data/analytics b/g., but I’m much more social than a “typical” data/analytics person. We have a program at my company that I’m networking to get into, but believe it’s prudent to diversify options, as there is obviously no guarantee that they select me for the program.

Ready to stop NIGHT after the first half. The kids aren't really responding to it and I'm kinda over it. Thoughts?

I've found that a reading workshop is the most humane and effective way to get kids to read and read a lot, but I'm discouraged by how few of my colleagues use it, much less know about it.

Which of Shakespeare’s comedies works best with grades 9-10? I really like “Twelfth Night” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” I’m wondering if anyone has ever used “The Taming of the Shrew” or “The Merchant of Venice” and can give me students’ reactions to one or both. I’m really tired of R&J and they get tragedies in other grades. BTW-It bugs me that I can’t italicize book titles on this app. I’m I the only one?

Thoughts on how to structure a 70-minute sixth grade ELA block?

Are any of the ELA teachers here also directing school plays, either by choice or by obligation?

I happily directed three plays a year for all 28 years of my career, but I know some teachers get "stuck" with doing the plays. I would love to be a resource, particularly for those in the second situation.

I learned so much about group work over the past few days. I now know to assign kids tasks in a group. I am planning a Socratic Seminar for R &J and Julius Caesar. Any insights or feedback?
