Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I think it's both. It was wrong of them to be misleading but at the same time, any income is better than no income. My advice is to go through with it, but immediately start job hunting with your new title and look for something that pays you appropriately.

Agree with this!!
You can ask to revisit and renegotiate compensation since this is a higher role than what you were initially told. They should absolutely understand and grant you that courtesy since they were the ones who left out the detail.
Don’t focus on job title focus on responsibilities. If your being asked to do more then you thought the job detailed during the interview then yes ask for more. If not just be happy with a better tittle then expected that will look better on your resume.
Maybe if I could be a bookkeeper my fishbowl standards would be higher…
Due to the new responsibilities, you definitely should look again at compensation. The company can’t offer you one thing, switch it, and not expect there to be changes on your end. Although, how does the salary compare to other similar positions in the area?
Yes they were sketchy, I'd go ahead and ask for the difference in job description and the pay bands for each. If you're in NY they will have to let you know.
A company hired me as a remote Senior Technical Support Analyst at a low six-figure salary, significantly exceeding the posted compensation. After completing onboarding in three months, I took ownership of my first batch of partners' portfolios and began building relationships with key contacts. Two weeks later, I joined most of the company for a week-long retreat in Istanbul, where I connected with colleagues and helped win a hackathon.
At the end of the retreat, the CFO announced plans to review salaries for fairness and revealed to everyone an extra week of company holiday, separate from regular holidays, along with unlimited PTO. A week after returning home, my manager's manager joined my weekly Zoom meeting and informed me they were letting me go. My manager said nothing but "goodbye." The CFO became my only contact and confirmed two weeks of severance, plus my final paycheck. The next day, LinkedIn notified me of a new posting for the company I was working for—same role, but a non-senior title at half the pay.
You should ask for more
When they mentioned that you're going to be an analyst two.You should Reply that it should come with a higher pay scale too, correct? and see what they say.
