Ontario bar is a joke compared to the NY bar. NY bar is closed book for starters.
Salary here is much higher than in Toronto. I find cost of living similar with the exception of my rent, but I could’ve gone for a cheaper unit if I wanted to. The types of restaurants and bars I go to here are similar to those in Toronto price-wise.

You actually have to study for the NY Bar vs Ontario bar.
I don't regret it at all, and am glad I did it, because now I can say Toronto > NY for me. The work in NY is much more challenging and high profile but every M&A associate in my firm is a one dimensional caricature whose sole purpose is money, and everybody seems
NY definitely has more restaurants and things going on for it but I don't have time to really enjoy it often anyway. Toronto has a lot more green space and parks that are highly underrated, which I miss. This includes easily accessible public tennis courts around the city and municipal golf courses.
You definitely save more in nominal terms, but the tax rate isn't actually that substantially different once you factor in NY city tax, social security/Medicare (which you won't get to ever use)/ and then i pay 5k after tax a year on the highest deductible health care. Say what you will about taxes in Canada, but at least there are functional schools and Healthcare. The taxes I pay here go to bombing some brown kids in the middle east.
I moved to CA and would say I have similar experiences to the poster above.
I don't regret it and it has allowed me to reach financial goals much quicker. I've been saving much more here despite the increased expenses.
But I don't think I'll want to live here long term. I also miss seeing more greenery around the city generally, having more accessible parks and places you can just drop by to play sports without reserving anything.
On a related note, has anyone moved from Canada to SF, LA or San Diego? How is has your experience been?
