So dumb. Never quit a job without having something lined up.
I agree. Never leave a job without securing another role unless you are planning to leave law practice.
Never. I almost did last week. I packed up all my personal stuff from my office and took it home just in case I decided I really couldn’t come back another day.
I stayed late to fix someone else’s mistake and to avoid a missed (artificial) deadline. I then got told off for it not being ready earlier than the deadline (because if it isn’t early, it’s late).
I hope the stigma attached to being unemployed starts to fade. If you have track record of high performance and a stable work history, why can’t you decide to take extra time off between jobs or leave a bad situation without something lined up? It’s like you’re being punished for having savings to live on without a job.
Not personally, but I’ve seen people take sabbaticals or leave to pursue a personal goal then go back into the market when they’re ready. I think that’s a good way to do it, if you can afford to.
Appearance of impropriety…
Don’t do this if at all possible. Much easier to find a job when you have a job. Will be a major competitive disadvantage
