Have any of you successfully lateraled from B4 to a medium-sized/large law firm? How was that process? I started at the B4 (JD/LLM) this summer but want to keep my future options open so I want to make sure I do what I can to ensure that.

I lateraled to a mid sized firm from big4 international after almost two years at big 4. I find it very very difficult even though I have LLM from NYU with 3.6 gpa. Most law firms do not think experiences at accounting firm are useful at law firms. Law firms work involve a lot of agreement drafting that the accounting firms cannot do. But accounting firms do draft memo. You can focus on that. Feel free to DM me and I am happy to discuss. I enjoy the law firm work much more than accounting firm. Good luck

will DM you!

I went the other way. It’s hard to lateral over unless you can show what your work has entailed other than compliance and basis studies. I would focus on getting into international or M&A and then get as many writing assignments or transactions (step plans, reviewing agreements) as possible. Hours and ultimately reps are your friend. See if the controversy team needs somebody else. It doesn’t matter what the task is, do it. Need to organize exhibits? Do it. Need to redo a step plan in an internal reorganization; do it.

These projects are what you can put on your resume as you start interviewing, and will help you stand out amongst other candidates who might have only just worked in compliance.

Hi Everyone,

I am currently working at Meta as a Recruiting Coordinator under contract. That contract will soon come to term in July. There hasn’t been any talks about extending my contract, so I am getting very nervous about potentially being out of work in July. I am a first gen corporate worker, and I have about 5 years of experience in recruitment. I have also recently finished my Masters in HR Management, so I wanted to jump on here and see if anyone has any tips for landing a new role?
