I hear you. I go back and forth on more layers. I agree that it may take a few years to reach supe status, but being an AE for a chunk of time (with no differentiation from the newbie AE’s) can be demoralizing. I know it’s “just a title” but it can be motivating and keep young talent within the agency.
On the flip side, many agencies are trying to operate more flat. By doing so, they can stabilize salary bands and allow layers of talent to be more financially compensated vs riding up a false title ladder.
Talk to your supervisor or AD. While a title bump may not be possible, see if you could get a little something for your contributions. Maybe a spot bonus or additional PTO. Don’t make it emotional. Lay out what you believe your tangible contributions are as an AE and make a case for it. Especially if you have some tenure at the agency. Good luck!!!
It’s an unnecessary role. The shades between an AE to an AS are already grey. SAE is just a title for no reason, with no real differentiation in responsibility.
Even with the SAE title, the time between AE and AS is the #1 time for turnover in account management. Sometimes for title, often for money. That won’t (and never did) change with title.
Focus more on your years and what you get paid. You’ll eventually believe those are the 2 things that really matter.
Hang in there!
Agreed been noticing this as well particularly in new york...
