Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Bain & Company Atlanta people! I’m in the process of applying for MBA programs and wanted to ask what recruiting is like for MBB from Emorys program? Is there a reasonable shot at getting into the Atlanta office from Emory, or are those openings primarily filled by other schools (Duke, UVA, etc.)

The way it usually works is the bar for promotions might get raised in the next cycle (or three) as a way to more aggressively cull lower performers. I don’t know of any layoffs in the “traditional sense” although one could argue that the MBB-style approach are just layoffs by another name.
What I think you just won’t see is something like a 30% RIF at MBB. Consulting work goes on in recessions, historically, and this is 100% a purely talent based business, so it just doesn’t make business sense to do what you’re seeing big tech doing recently with RIFs.
Didn’t we go through a strong period of shrinking in the late 80s / early 90s? I can’t recall if people were leaving the boat en masse or if we were intentionally reducing our workforce.
It was very situational though, at the time I know we nearly went out of business. Then again, it was many moons ago.

Last time there were real layoffs was in 2001
Revenue was 10 percent of what it is today then
Unlikely for consulting staff - will likely just freeze incoming hiring and let the natural up or out process do it’s work.
Thanks everyone! Has hiring been frozen for any of the firms?
I heard last time they did lay offs they offered to hire anyone who was laid off back once the economy was healthy enough to support more headcount. Can’t confirm because I was like 6 in the dot com crash but that’s what I have heard from MBB peers.
