I switched as a consultant from EYP to Bain. Hours are definitely more at Bain; however, they're generally concentrated to M-Th. I have only worked one weekend in over a year. At EYP, things were definitely a bit slower during the week but at least on one project I found myself working almost every weekend.
Other than that, literally everything is better about Bain (and I promise I was happy at EYP, I just didn't know how good it could be). Total comp and benefits higher at every level with a much larger gap the longer you stay. Projects are more interesting, you have more input to your staffing from one project to the next, wayyyy less bureaucracy, and a way higher focus on teaming and coaching (plus more funds dedicated to team dinners, etc.) My learning has been vastly accelerated since joining Bain.

My friends at EYP seem happy, don’t have a bad thing to say about it.
This said, I left Bain a few years ago and the name still goes far. I’m now applying for new roles (i.e. the job AFTER my Bain exit) and I get interviews for the vast majority of ads that ask for management consulting experience. I’ve been applying for things where I don’t have the required YOE, and I’m still getting call backs. I’m not one of those people who is Oxford undergrad, HBS, GS IB before Bain, started successful VC at age 17, etc lol. People want to talk to me about Bain, and there’s a lot of assumed credibility when I talk about the work I did there.
If you’re looking to stay in consulting until partner, this may not matter! If you hate PE and want to do public sector work only, Bain prob isn’t right for you. I think Bain vs EYP depends on what you want and isn’t a clear cut answer the way some may think. Just wanted to add that Bain has really done me well in the job market.

WLB is generally only similar to Bain for CDD project types.
Bain for the 💰 eyp for wlb.
Even if pay is the same today, 3-5 years down the line you‘ll be significantly higher at Bain
Just to add to S& - specific groups in TSE (deal management, deal finance). Other TSE verticals wlb is hit or miss.
Bain without a doubt. If nothing else, you avoid all the drama / bureaucracy that comes with EY

Pick Bain. As someone who exited to industry and now is back the MBB brand is unmatchable. Plus EYP seems to do most of its work around M&A. Maybe Bain offers broader range of cases?
Run from EYP - the separation is just going to make things very uncertain for the next year or two

Depends on which group at EYP. PE/CDD hours for Bain and EYP are similar.
EYP is losing their best people to Bain so that tells you what you need to know

Bain gets a lot of lateral hires from EYP. Not sure of that impacts your decision. I would obviously pick Bain but I guess that’s clear!

Lol this shouldn't be a question. Go with Bain. You can always go Bain to EY but much harder the other way around
No wrong answer, both great firms. If it’s me I would go Bain. Slightly larger name recognition to those not involved in consulting. Also the local staffing model is nice, I’m not sure if EY-P does that.
Btw, Bain is not on a local staffing model. It’s on a home (or “local”) office model, which simply means that you are staffed with people from your own office. You will not be staffed on only clients in your area and travel definitely happens.
That said, travel is definitely less than it was pre Covid. Any CDD case doesn’t require travel either.
