Hi fishes,
Any guess how many people are laid off from Publicis sapient in past few days? Really scared for my future as I'm also under probation period and deeply regret for my choice of joining this firm...I don't understand why were they recruiting peeps when they were short of projects. Publicis Sapient

Almost everyone will be laid off from a job at one point. Be honest. What the interviewer is looking for is how you reacted. (I’ve been laid off six times, so I have some excellent stories about how I handled it.)
Have a positive spin to being laid off that you can recount.
However, I wouldn’t mention being fired.
I was thinking I am a only one who get fired for two times consecutive iinfact the second time they stopped trial period when realize i got fired from the first one since that time i am thuramatized and i think is not something normal in France to get fired. 😒🥴
I’ve never been asked this and honestly it would send a red flag for me. People who are jobless are the most desperate and often get offered below market rate salaries to capitalize on their desperation.
Rising Star
Definitely seems like a manipulation tactic.

You say, “of course. It’s advertising. It’s practically the standard holding company business model.” Then share in a mutual laugh.
Who hasn’t been laid off in this industry? Seriously.
Very true... in the business since 1984.... for many reasons that were out of my control.
1) New CEO took over and removed the AD department
2) Company bought out and did not need two art departments
3) Owner wanted to sell the family owned company so he "Laid Off" half his staff so he could show a higher profit on the books to the new buyer.
4) The housing market crashed and the first department to get the cuts... Marketing
5) COVID
6) New CEO has this brain storm - if he laid off the whole art department and then hires freelances he could ave big bucks
YES.. boys and girls. I have experienced ALL this and more... it comes down to Corp Greed!
Good Luck to you all!
I’ve never gotten this question. And in most of those cases you can’t really disclose it if you signed an NDA.
I don’t think so
I’ve never been asked this. But I’d ask myself why kind of information are they trying to glean from asking it? Kind of a dumb question in this economy, in this industry if I’m being honest. Also, the likelihood that the person asking the question has been fired at least once in their career is high.
I would say, I was fired once because I murdered the person who asked that question.
Never been asked directly during interview like that but I always tell the truth, when it comes up talking about a specific stint. It happens to everyone in our line of work.
If you haven’t been laid off at least once, you’re not pushing for breakthrough work and branding hard enough.
I usually panic and shut my laptop.
"I was laid off because of sweeping changes to the company's infrastructure and a directional shift which made my role obsolete. Or, "I was released because the company and I were simply not an ideal fit; the management just made their move before I could."
Both of these scenarios played out at different times in my career, and having a confident answer is better (at least for appearances) than squirming, trying to find an escape from the question. That said, having the question posed in the first place is a potential red flag. Numerous people in the industry have been let go in the past for one reason or another; there's no shame in being part of that crowd. It could even be an opportunity for the interviewer to see how well a candidate responds to a tough question.
No and please tell them to f right off if they do. Or lie. Or tell the truth because we have all been laid off at some point.
I’ve gone through people’s work history in interviews, and I will ask how a job ended if I see any gaps. I’m looking for a few things. 1. Is it a pattern? Do they get “laid off” repeatedly? 2. Or, if they got let go, why do they think they got let go? Was it not their fault? Or was it their fault and they learned something from it? In general, I want people with some self-awareness.

I’m not sure what you’re hoping to glean from the “repeatedly” thing.
Everyone in this business gets laid off repeatedly. Especially creatives. I know a dozen award-winning creatives who are fantastic to work with.
One was laid off 3 weeks ago after only being on the job for 4 days b/c the client decided to pull the business.
I’ve had sooooo many interviews and nobody has ever asked me that.
Its not a big deal to get fired in advertising. Its not rocket science and creative jugdgement on things vary alot so, people think different, and well disagreements happen. So people get fired…
That is a weird question. Never had it asked.
I’d politely question the relevance and then probably ask myself I'd the place is the right fit given they are asking such a thing
I appreciate you might question the legality and even the stupidity of the interviewer, but if you’ve been out of work for far too long and are struggling to put food on your table,it would make more sense to take the job if offered and keep looking for another.
I have never been asked this before and I've never once asked a candidate this during an interview
