Yes, and I’ve been in PA way too many years and still feel this way. Finally making a move out soon and am thinking something completely different.
What are your other interests and skills outside of just having a CPA? Any particular industry stand out to you?
For example, if you’re interested in learning AI, many accounting firms have internal roles for things like AI development, digital transformation, etc, that they often recruit for from within and provide the training.
Or if you want to go completely out of public, maybe focus on another set of skills unrelated to your CPA.
Completely understand that! Maybe a role in nonprofit finance or budgeting could be a good fit. It’s usually less about complex technical skills and more about understanding the bigger picture.
go to industry!!
Or internal audit then pivot to an operational job?
Project management, it’s always helpful to have accounting background to understand financial implications of the project.
Industry, perhaps finance if interested in forecasting and budgeting.
