Hello All,
I have a degree in project management but currently not in a PM role. I want to go for CAPM and or PMP but I am currently only in a project coordinator role. Can someone advise me if I work towards a PM certification or wait?

If you have the hours, go for PMP

Having recently becoming PMP certified, go for the PMP over the CAPM. The PMP will add a lot more value for you over the CAPM.

You don’t necessarily have to be in “PM” role to qualify hours for PMP. There are several roles that are PM equivalent, nothing more so than a project coordinator. Look for your other experiences and use them for PMP hours… as long as you can justify how. For example I was a campus recruiter and each of my recruiting drives were a project in themselves that I closely managed. They needed initiation, rigorous planning, execution, monitoring and control and finally closing and lessons learned. Having PMP will not do any magic on your resume, instead it will add seriousness & focus that you may be hoping for. At least that’s what it did for me!

Where do you recommend getting the PMP certification?

Thank you

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.

Thoughts and feedback on not giving notice or reducing the typical two weeks?
