I’m all for motivation and ambition but you sir are looking at the wrong deadlines… you just graduated with 6 months of experience and your already working on your MBA? And looking for a management role? Maybe take time to truly understand what you want do and getting good at it or your on the path for burning out
I totally agree with this. By getting more experience (in this role or any other) you’ll not only get to know yourself more and understand what you want in the future, but you’ll be more competitive for business school, and a top university may be more interested in you. Don’t be in a rush, my friend. MBA will make sense when you have more time working. Now, focus on where you’ll learn more
Wait Atleast 1 year
6 months in the industry … looking to take a mgmt. position in the investments side of banking?
I know it’s early now, but just trying to to figure out what’s a reasonable time to wait. People keep telling me that you have to switch jobs in order to maximize your earnings
Speak with a Mentor, Build Relationships, Network, tell your manager about your intentions.
Gain experience and use MBA as an opportunity to change career track if you need to. No need to hurry as a lot of folks move up without MBA. If you are growing your skills then you are doing fine. For the first 5 years, focus on skill development. If you are ready for managerial roles, you will be given opportunities. I am at BNY so feel free to ping me DM and we can network.
Chief
How much are they paying if your mba and what’s the clawback? Take that into account.
If there's no clawback then you don't need to worry
Give it another year and then start applying for other opportunities. Getting a new job can take some time so by the time that you find a new role, you may have 2 years of experience under your belt.
Hi, sorry totally unrelated. Can someone share what the culture is like at BNY? I work as a global trading analyst for a financial institution & I’m curious about BNY. Thanks!
Didn’t they have tuition reimbursement program? Can you get them to pay? Might have to stay 1-2 more years after finishing the degree though.
50k?! Run
Depends! Your just fresh take the experience, but after one year please look for more. I don’t know where you are based but in California can’t do anything tangible
I’m curious why you decided on getting your MBA. I assume it’s an online program?
When you are a manager I hope your 6 month new hires jump on you…. Karma
