Hello everyone. For those of us that manage employees, what is one bit of advice you’d give to new managers? I’ve been leading teams since 2017 and for me I think it is always best to lead with empathy. Treat everyone as an individual human with needs and respect. They’ll appreciate you much more over the long term.

Any thoughts?

Communications and trust are key. Employees don't like it when you leave them out of the loop and make decisions that they don't understand. Treat them like adults, tell them what's what and be open to feedback. The reason so many employees feel antagonized by their managers is because that's genuinely how they're being treated. We can be better.

like

I like that. Being clear and transparent goes a long way.

Try to see things from the other side and get feedback when you can. Understanding that one way of managing may not be the best for every person or every team. Sometimes you have to figure out how to adapt so you can be at your best and the team can be at their best.

I’m big on 360 feedback from my staff. I wish we did it on an enterprise level.

Does anyone have tips regarding attending social events, such as happy hours with coworkers and express that drinking isn’t my preference?
With me being the only one on my team who doesn’t drink, it causes me to stick out, and others constantly question why I’m not drinking.
It kind of deters me from attending work events, but I know there’s a lot of benefitting in being around.

I’ve been working for a small investment firm for about a year and am having some issues with my boss. We have a weekly check-in but he’s ALWAYS 2-3 hours late, or skips the meeting altogether without warning. He also never replies to any of the emails I send. I already spoke with him about these issues, but things haven’t really changed. I really like the work I do but I’m starting to feel frustrated about the situation. Any advice? Or anyone else in a similar situation?

I've been working at this company for about 3.5 weeks now. Its been great so far.

We have an org chart in our dashboard ATS/HRIS and so I clicked on my first day buddies name just for fun.

I was able to see her entire employee file..even her address. I was really freaked out and I went to another profile and the same thing happened, I was able to see this person's emergency contact. Is this fucking normal? Should I say something and will I get in trouble for looking at a colleagues file?

I hate working on commission. I am a naturally shy person and approaching guests in our store is intimidating enough, it's even worse when some of my more socially savvy coworkers notice me trying to strike up a conversation with someone and they come in and literally steal my client from me.

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?

I just finished what I thought was the final round of interviews for a job that I really want. Everything has been going extremely well. The recruiter just called to tell me that they want me to do one more round, though. This will make 8 interviews total, including a full case study presentation to 4 people. Should I be worried?
