Hi All, I was approached by a recruiter to interview for a manager role at Strategy& based out of Toronto. He mentioned the base pay range for a new M will be CAD 145-155k.
Can someone please share:
1: What the interview process will be like?
2: Is the base pay in line?

Op - I would be very surprised if you get it . we offer this much to SM. 140k for an M1 , nope ! I still don’t agree with consultant 1 in the salary .
Salaries in Toronto are extremely conservative .
I have 7 years of experience working in a bank and 8 years of experience in consulting .
So I have seen both sides .
Op - cost of living is now similar unfortunately .
At 110k, ur take home will be around 6k.
2.5-3k for rental ( 2 br condo )
1-1.5k on groceries .
If you opt for car , insurance can be around 300/ month plus payments and maintenance .
Lon story short , it’s very much pay check to pay check if you are the only one working ( assuming for a family of 2 )
I would love OW1 to point me to places in canada that pay 150k in industry and 175-200k in consulting for 6yrs exp.
OP- when you move to canada, dont compare your usd salary to cad - it will always underwhelm you. Given you are from the west coast, you are already taxed pretty high so you might get some relief in your tax rate. You might also find cost of living a tad cheaper and most importnantly, you wont be paying insane medical premiums and co pays. So all in all, you still will be in good shape.
Curious to know what is the motivation behind this move? Because that should amount to something as well.
120-140 is a big range for an M1. ITA M1 starts at 100ish and up to 115-120ish.
I haven’t seen an M1 at 140.
You are right EY3 , I meant range for managers not M1 in particular. I wonder what’s base and bonus range for SM’s at EY
130-150 ( sm1) ,3-5% bonus
It is . What’s the bonus in Deloitte ? And how much base for sm1 ?
Base is same but bonus averages at 15-20%
Wow is it for Toronto ?
Yes
Wow that’s cool. Is Deloitte hiring ? Lol
PwC1- move is short term hopefully as I’d want to come back and live on the west coast. It’s more of a tactical move that I can’t avoid so was trying to find the silver lining
Deloitte1- damn those bonus numbers sound great lol. Any hiring going on in the digital practice?
Late to the game, but P1 a lot of industry positions pay 150 or so (check directors/AVP at most banks or large corporate). MBB/OW/ATK definitely pay 175 as well.
Directors at Big 5 banks do get paid $150K for 6 years of work experience. Was recently offered a job as one and the base pay was $130K. Bonus is $10K.
I Would expect Around the same at KPMG (close to EY ranges)
^ this is absolutely false. The average post-MBA Canadian industry salary is in the 90-100k range (see any school report) and companies will value 6 years of consulting experience way more than a Canadian MBA.
I have 3 years of experience and when headhunters reach out to me for industry positions the amount is usually in the ~$110k range (e.g. PE, strategy manager at a bank, product manager for tech companies, etc) which is much lower than my current salary or what US industry positions offer.
EY3, I'm currently recruiting and no one bats an eye at 150k. No the postings don't show the salary, because that's for you to negotiate (and also most jobs are not posted). However, if you're talking director-level at RBC/BMO/Scotia/TD (or Sunlife/Manu/GWL or even Shoppers: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/764097957/), the base comp can easily be 150. That means for EMs/PLs/CTLs (which is 6 years after starting), you'll only take a reasonable pay cut to go to industry (instead of like 50% if it was barely 6 fig).
And I only bring banking in because Toronto is so rife with banking positions for ex-consultants, since all the HQs are here. Also Toronto is the highest-paid city in Canada (maybe with Calgary during the good times). Gotta afford those lovely 1M+ houses (ugh).
So are we saying that to continue in consulting with 6-7yrs of experience it would be reasonable to expect a salary around 130-140k starting at M1?
EY3: is the cost of living lower than that of west coast? I’ve read taxes are high so wondering how’s it compensated
Pwc toronto has a very big range for manager. 86k - 144k. In digital I think the salary tends to average at about 110 for M1
