we don’t have a pension anymore. We have $3k 401k deposit after 3 years service as a pension replace, and 5% 401k match (3 years vesting) that you lose once you make more than $250k
Making this decision off minute retirement difference is silly.
Op didn’t mention his income, but I actually lose $7k a year retirement wise working at jpm compared to ms as I’m over $250k
Fwiw, 401k match is drops to 4% at MS over 275k. You’re dead on, this shouldn’t be a deciding factor, team dynamic is way more important.
They are functionally the same.
Join whichever team you like more and has the best career progression, if comp is similiar
MS.. much better culture
I'm terms of WLB, compensation, benefits both are similar. So you can weigh based on location, project, learning scope, roles & responsibilities.
You’ll likely get paid more overtime in CIB than enterprise
Chase has a pension. And their 401K match is higher than MS. Plus you never lose tenure at Chase. If you leave and come back it’s like you never left. I’d go with Chase I’ve worked at both places.
I didn’t those tenure at MS and I left for two weeks short of 10 years.
No pension at chase!!!
Thank you guys, very insightful thoughts.
More context about role and responsibilities:
JP : CIB team, mostly working on Athena (their internal strategic framework in Python)
MS : Enterprise data team, so automation of data pipelines and Infra setups (again in Python)
My understanding is JP work is more closer to business and MS is lew layers apart from business.
Hope this helps, let me know your thoughts.
