I've been working as an Ops engineer, and while the product I work on is excellent, my job mainly involves just incident management rather than operations. It lacks the use of scripting, DevOps tools, Docker, and Kubernetes.

With just 1 year of experience, I'm reconsidering my career path. Colleagues suggest that understanding how the service works is crucial. Is this true? Can this knowledge help me succeed if I aim for FAANG companies ?

I have an interview with McKinsey - Senior Associate, the role pays 50k more than my current role. (3YOE)

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.
