I would DM this. People legit steal content and could use it to apply then make you look like the copier. Sorry to sounds distrustful but I have learned my lesson as I have had a co-worker literally copy my resume word for word and paste it in their LinkedIn even for things they didn’t also do. Content for resumes and cover letters takes hourrrrrrrs to refine - protect it!
This happened to me too! I have a friend that plagiarized parts of my resume and LinkedIn for work I did...I haven’t said anything but it’s just weird ya know?

Gonna try to be helpful here -
Your cover letter should be indicative of what YOU bring to the table. It’s supplemental support for your candidacy.
Only at the very end in the last sentence did you talk about what you bring to the firm. Your entire paragraph alludes to what you like about BCG from the limited conversation(s) you’ve had.
What specifically draws you in? Why are you the best candidate for the role? What do you provide that other candidates don’t that would make the recruiting team consider your application more than the next person?
You brought up an ESG initiative that the firm supports. Great. Now what experience - if any - do you have working in that space, and how can you be an asset to the company? Tie that in together if you can.
We all know why you’re applying. It’s a well-regarded firm that has a competitive application process. How you differentiate yourself in the cover letter is emphasizing what skills/experiences you bring that the firm will benefit from bringing you onboard.
My advice is to change the narrative of your cover letter - regardless of where you apply - in order to tailor it to what value the company gets from adding you - not what you get from the company.

Thanks SC1 and SA1!
Yikes, its probably not getting read
Rising Star
Yes nice catch thanks, should be as a result
Seems overly wordy, you can probably say the exact same thing with a lower word count

Thanks BAH1! This is only the first section/paragraph
Can cover letters please just die off already?

One day :(
Some initial high levels thoughts
1) your language needs to be pithy. We probably spend less than 20-30 seconds (if at all) looking at cover letters, so don’t ramble as much
2) I don’t think you should spend as much real estate as you have outlining why BCG is great. Use the cover letter to highlight your interests and supplement it with anecdotes. I like the content of your CPG bullet (notwithstanding the terrible run on sentence), but I’m afraid it might not even get read
3) if possible, add something personal or unique at the end to catch the attention of the reader
4) like BCG1 said, this is almost irrelevant to your candidacy so don’t spend more than an hour on it. Pre-interview, the best investment of your time is networking and case prep

Thank you!
Reads like one long sentence. I’d scrap it and start over. You’re telling BCG why they are great and they already know that. Tell them YOUR story and why YOU are great
Good luck!

You may want to ask someone from BCG to review this via DM request.
I would avoid telling the reader what BCG is known for - tell them you’re interested in BCG because you’re excited about the mentorship opportunities, opp to work for such a leading retail practice etc. don’t tell them accolades about their firm - they know that and they know it better than you.
Rising Star
True, thank you!
If you spoke to someone from BCG at an event (virtual or in person), I would specify that. If ESG is an area of interest to you, I’d add that to the sentence where you talked about it. Also, I typically mention the name of the person I spoke to, but I’ve never applied to BCG so not sure if that’s the norm/okay. Good luck!

Thank you for the feedback!
I don’t think BCG reads these. Don’t major in the minors - go focus on interview prep!!

Gotcha!

I had someone once tell when applying to med school “you sound like every generic asian guy that wants to be a doctor”
You should have real passion in why you want to do something. You need to show me what makes you a good fit. You should spend some time doing research. Deep research into what are the areas that make you interested.
Rising Star
Thank you! If I may ask a follow up question, do you think my mentioning of my interests in retail and CPG is specific enough and in which other areas do you think I can be more specific in?
Rising Star
I might spell out any acronyms and hit them with the (“XYZ”) afterwards if it’s repeated.
The ones you have here may seem obvious, but not necessarily to the reader.
What does everyone think? Spell out ESG, CPG, ROI?
Rising Star
Hmm true thanks, it might be even longer than it currently is though
No one will take the time to read or digest this
What are you going to do for BCG? That is all they care about at the end of the day. That doesn’t come through
