Guys, my friend had her last working day last week and she thinks she forgot to fill her timesheet for her last 2 days before handing over the laptop. What can be the consequences of this? She is really worried about this
P.S she belongs to a back end team serving the firm internally charging time on only one code.

You're looking to move jobs, who gives a fuck what you make now? You're undervalued and looking to rectify it.
That's how I try to think about it when it's me. I ask around and check glass door try to gauge the pay band for the position, then ask for the high end of the band. Usually I come in high, but then their rebuttals is above the low end of the range. Mostly be ready to let the job go if they don't give you what you need. This is advertising, not a charity. It's ok to ask for fair compensation.
In NYC they cannot ask you for salary
Your prior salary has no bearing whatsoever on what you should get paid next. Nor should the city you live in (eg "Houston is lower cost of living, so...")
The only thing that matters is the business value you can bring. Calculate it, explain it and then negotiate from that position.
The reality is that most companies want "good enough" people and not great ones, because great talent costs more. In that case, hold out for a great company. You'll be happier and better paid in the long run.
Even if they can legally ask, I don't provide that info. I just respond with what it would take me to move.
Your current or prior salary is your personal information, no more relevant to a potential employer than your marital status, race or sexual orientation.
AFG 1's observation is correct. That's why it is a good idea to move your search out of your cartel member... umm I mean "holding company."
*unless you're moving within the same holding company. Then they know.
The NYC law that everyone loves to reference on here isn’t actually in effect until later this year. So be careful throwing that in their face.
Lie. Money is meaningless in advertising. Interview as much as you can. It's poker. Figure out your worth. Tell them that "what you're making" and then tell them you expect a raise. Confidence goes far. Even ad people fall for stuff. And if no one wants to PAY you. Go out and make the best shit on your own so that you can name your price.
Just to reinforce what SAD1 above says, your salary will absolutely be known within the holding company, and they'll fight you hard on anything that isn't a justifiable increase above cost of living. The one exception would be where the JD is a massive improvement from where you are currently, like say, going from Director to Group Director etc.
Always always go high, like 10-15 grand higher than you'll settle for. And stick to it. I've never heard of agencies doing salary background checks... just have good references that will root hard for you.
How else would we get raises without giving ourselves raises
My most recent move required pay stubs/tax documents as part of my background check. Not sure if it was shared with the company, but it didn't impact my offer (despite telling a little white lie to lock in a $50k raise).
I don't think lying should be part of the equation, you need to know what's your minimum to move; that is regardless of what you currently make.
Absolutely. It's none of their business.
I ring my hands at the excitement of my response to someone asking me for a W2 or pay stub. 🖕🏻
Honestly stop getting reasonable raises. Value is based on perception. The more they compensate you the more they think of you.
I mean... does a bear go in the woods?
Isn't that an unspoken rule?
My new place asked for a W2 I believe.
yes be careful. background checks typically reveal your salary, latest guilty pleasure, most embarrassing wardrobe choice and how many people you've slept with...in the last week. don't even bother going to the interview.
