Seems on the low end, but you will probably get half a dozen other related bills from other providers based on my experiences.
Congrats on the new baby 🥰 My bill was about $1,800 but had a discount since I delivered in the car on the way to the hospital. Always try to get it down but unfortunately, that sounds about right 😔. They should have an interest free payment option at the hospital if you prefer to pay across 12 months. Good Luck!
This is my biggest fear. I’m 36 weeks! My first was born within 30 mins of arriving to the hospital so I have grave concerns I won’t make it with this one 😬
Yes this my experience.
2 births. Both vaginal. Both no drugs.
Both paid a few grand $ out of pocket w insurance coverage.

Both no drugs? Woof. You are my hero.
Def about right. But look to see what your max out of pocket expenses are with your insurance. Should be in your account info. I have a low deductible/out of pocket plan because I knew we would be expanding our family so I planned ahead. I got on a payment plan for my Feb birth. You’ll also get a bill for the baby. I think I paid about $3k in the end for everything.
Yup. I paid around 4k c-section.
Yep mine was just over that - maybe about $6k. The whole bill was close to $100k and I was so surprised to get a bill for my baby as well!!
Sounds about right, and expect additional bills! I got a hospital bill for me, OB bill and a hospital bill for my baby
I paid about the same - maybe $4k all in?
Question, since I’m expecting... does your care provider have a payment plan?
Ask for one but also reach out to the hospital. I paid like $2,400 for the Ob appointment and then got a second bill from the hospital after giving birth.
It depends on your plan. HMO in-network on my first delivery and all I paid was 20 bucks. I’m just about to have my 2nd baby with a new plan, also HMO and hoping it will be the same.
I just got my bill today (gave birth on 9/25 in Connecticut). No complications thankfully, vaginal birth but I did have an epidural and my baby was circumcised in the hospital as well- total was about $2,900. And just for reference, before insurance being applied it was just over $27k!!! What a world.
My bill was about $1500 for a c section, twins, with no complications. But about 8 months later I got a $2000 refund from the hospital out of the blue. So I actually made money on it. Don’t know why, and didn’t question it. This was in Florida and insurance was through my husband’s work, a large university hospital system.
You are in Australia! The government gives you $5k per child to help you out 😁
This is in the ballpark of my recent NYC delivery (pre OB bill) just map the explanation of benefits back to the bill and if you have questions go ahead and call the hospital and your insurance company and make them explain it to you.
Make sure they are all processed through insurance!!!! Don’t pay anything until you double check. I got a bill and it hadn’t been run. Once everything was processed it hit my deductible and didn’t have to pay anything else!
Depends on your plan. I paid $200.
I paid about $1,000 with a PPO plan. Hospitals do have different fees even in the same location.
