I've had a mask in my pocket since COVID started. Even after the mandate ended, I've carried a mask for those occasions when I end up in a really crowded store or bank, or go into my grandchildrens' schools to see them in some extracurricular activity. I think it's important to be proactive, not only for our own health but for strangers we stand in a store line-up with, about whom we know nothing. They may be health-compromised and can't afford to be exposed to anything. I just hope that if this new version of COVID starts to become a huge problem and mandates have to be reinstituted, that all people will participate willingly. The opposition to wearing masks and getting vaccinated during the initial COVID period was absolutely ridiculous.
I definitely agree with you!
I have a box of N95s in case I need them. I don't have to go out on public transportation much, and I still more or less socially distance in places like grocery stores. But if things get bad and I have to be around a lot of people I'll mask up. I really don't care what the anti-mask imbeciles have to say about it.
Working in NYC I really have no choice when it comes to public transportation, so I try to reduce my risk as much as I can.
Rising Star
I think it’s a smart move, especially with respiratory viruses on the rise. Masking in crowded areas, like public transit, helps protect yourself and others. It’s a simple way to stay safe and avoid spreading anything. Plus, it’s great that you’re being proactive—definitely worth it during this season!
My wife and I still wear a mask at the gym and when we take public transportation or fly. The gym situation is because we noticed a ton of people showing up sick and coughing all over the machines and not wiping them down. I am surprised that after COVID people are still so inconsiderate of how their actions can impact others.
Oh my gosh that's terrible that they are coughing on the machines! I think if you are determined to go to the gym while sick you should at least wear a mask. I wish people who worked there would go up to them and just politely ask them to do so but it can be controversial and even dangerous, unfortunately.
As someone who suffers from asthma and has been having frequent asthma flare ups, I am also in support of this. I end up getting some sort of upper respiratory infection every single year. I am totally in support of keeping myself and others healthy.
Same for me! I have allergic asthma and I learned recently that allergies make you more susceptible to catching a cold too because of the increased congestion and inflammatory response, etc.
