I haven’t heard great things about Dentsu lately and I work for one of the others. My recommendation is go to the smaller shop, explain that you have an offer for $80K and what can they do for you. If not base, is there a signing bonus, annual bonus, extra week of vacation etc.
Since both are important to you, which is your number 1? If you find them both equally important, I’d choose the big 6 offer. Work there for a year or 2 and take that experience and money and head to a smaller agency where you’ll get the culture and now also have set yourself up for the pay.
since when is there a “big six”?
Don’t care so much about the holding company as I do the culture. Dentsu vs Omnicom is still very different from a mid size DTC - Ecomm agency.
How much is the pay differential? Game changing for you?
I’ve seen people progress more quickly at smaller agencies. You can get exposed to more aspects of the business and advance titles and responsibility faster. That being said, if they’re a small shop without potential for VC or PE growth, your income might not grow as fast as the larger firm.
Decide what factors are most important to you and grade each place on those factors.
And keep in mind if you choose the wrong one this isn’t forever.
Good luck!
I am currently at a mid level agency right now and struggling to grow vertically due to unrealistic kpi’s. Making $60,000 a year. Dentsu offered $80,000 and a management title. Other mid size agency offered $70,000 (negotiated from $65,000)
