Hi all! Also posted this in the in-house bowl. Has anyone transitioned from in-house at an insurance company to an in-house role for a non-insurance company? I currently work in workers’ comp at a firm, and am interviewing for an in-house role at an insurance company. I’m trying to get out of WC completely and am hoping this will be a stepping stone to in-house life, but not sure how realistic that is. TIA!

I have and the key is to avoid working for the insurance specific business groups within you legal function. If you are doing m&a, employment, IP and generally stay in the realm of the corporate functions where skills are transferable you should be alright.

I think it is realistic! Definitely just get in house first

I am an Account Executive and work in the programmatic team as part of a wider agency, but I’m not sure this is where I want to be. I want something more collaborative, creative, and less to do with numbers and budgets.

Got an offer at a great company. Ive done this job before but moved away from it because it burnt me out because of the people and it scarred me. I have found out i have ptsd from it and am scared to start the new one. Been working on ptsd thru therapy. I know its a great firm and a great opportunity but my ptsd is bad. Another company last wk reached out same field diff role more chill and behind the scenes and i cant help but think about the easy way out over the challenge and better future.

Hello! I’m litigator currently at a plaintiffs firm looking to go in-house. Has anyone here made a similar transition? Any tips on finding a good fit? I’m a little worried that going from plaintiff side to in house maybe difficult…I also have BL and clerkship experience so maybe it’s all in my head but any insights would be helpful.
