Hi all, I am based in the UK and looking for some advice...

Currently a Senior Consultant within the Technology Consulting team at EY. I have been here just over 2 years, been promoted recently to SC and currently salary is £46,200 (2500 per month). I don’t want to work in consulting anymore and have the following offer on the table:

Google, Contract, 6-months, £1500 a month after tax, Data Management Analyst. My thought process behind applying for and taking this role is (1/2 continued)

Strategy role is unlikely as that goes to people with mbas.

We dont poach from our partners....but the uk is a bit different.

That being said....we usually look for people with 6 years of experience. We also want people with cloud experience.

Personally....I think too many things are lined up against you. I'd put the likelihood of you joining us at leas than 10% unless you are out of this world amazing (lots of languages, experience on off hours, etc)

Thank you for taking the time out to respond! All very useful!

(2/2) I am hoping to secure a full-time position within the strategy or sales team following this contract. I believe it would be easier to network and secure a referral from within. I realise I am taking a significant pay-cut for a contract position but I still live at home with parents and I don’t have any real ongoing financial obligations. I am 24 years of age and joined EY fresh out of university.

Some friends and family are calling me crazy for considering this... keen to hear the opinions of fellow professionals. I guess for this specific bowl, I am keen to also understand from fellow Googlers and Ex-Googlers how it is transitioning into a full time role as a contractor? Do you think I would be able to secure a position in strategy or sales if I network and make the effort? Is the data management analyst role a good role?

So my VP at my previous company felt bad and refused to speak to me or attend my farewell after my resignation. His reason was that I somehow betrayed his trust as he had promoted me just last year (after keeping the position open for 4 months and letting me take additional work load after the previous SM left!). Does this make any sense? I mean where does this sense of entitlement or ownership over the employees come from? No wonder the company in question is kind of facing a literal exodus!

I am in a tech IC position. One of friends switched to FAANG by converting the profile to consultant profile. The friend who might have less tech knowledge than me is now in FAANG and earning more. If the end goal would be that the friend might one day be a product manager and me an engineering manager taking instructions from the same friend, isn't consultant profile an easier path to growth. I had been practising DSA for years and the competition is only ever growing.

Is the difference between big 4 and MBB in compensation huge at top levels (SM and up)?

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?
