Not sure if this would help with burnout, but here are a few paths I’ve tried post-FP&A - first, I went into TAS, specifically financial due diligence, since I wanted exposure into deals - if you find the right team, they’ll appreciate your FP&A background for the insights and recommendations piece of the FDD report, however small that may be. FDD is fast-paced and the hours can add up quickly, but I found it a good experience. The second path I’ve tried and recommend, if you want break out of corporate FP&A is to try consulting. Again, the hours will likely be longer, but pay is typically better, and experiences will vary by project.
Other internal avenues would be pricing and data/ business analysis (more technical).
Hope this helps!
Great advice! I was in FP&A for 7 years then got my MBA to pivot into consulting.
Following. I’m also in FP&A
I am trying to pivot into FP&A from accounting. Is it considered a good profile for future or becomes too much at some point?
I think if accounting is not too much for you, you will be fine. I started in public accounting then went to industry for less than a year and hated it. I’ve been in FP&A for a year and a half now and like it much better. However, I am curious to see what people recommend as an exit b/c while this is good, I’m still not convinced this is the best fit for me long term.
